Default Supercharged B20/Vtec using an SC14

Hi all,

I've successfully managed to supercharge my B20/Vtec Del Sol using a Toyota SC14 supercharger from an Estima family wagon.

Sorry I can't be bothered building another build thread, but the full build can be found at Supercharged B20/Vtec using an SC14 - NZHondas.com

The build includes the dyno results including a direct b16a, b18c, and b20/vtec comparison.

There is clearly a 40kw/50hp gain from this very simple bolt on mod.

I upgraded the radiator (and hoses) and installed some 4-1 headers.
The headers are a tight fit, but they fit none the less. I loook forward to re-testing on the dyno to see what difference it makes.

All the vacuum lines were replaced with silicone . . . a little ricey, but might gain another 4kw LOL

looks like a pretty clean set up, and the sc14's make a nice small supercharger but you have to becarful about over-reving them and melting the teflon lining but shouldn't be a problem till up over 15 psi. If i where you i would consider using an intercooler with your setup to help lower your iat's

Thanks, yes it is pretty clean, however it could do with a wire-tuck if I could ever be bothered.

There are absolutely no issues with over-revving the SC14 at the moment. I'm using stock pulleys on the crank and SC14.
The bottom end is a stock B20, so it shouldn't rev more than approx 7400rpm anyway.

As for an intercooler, I decided I don't entirely need one on this setup. Datalogging shows the IAT's dont go any hotter than 50 degrees c. It would be beneficial to have an intercooler, but for the gain vs cost, it's not worth it just yet.

I don't have pics of th b20 setup yet . . which is stupid because I've been driving it for 5 months now.

Heres a couple of quick vids of the speedo on the b16a setup. Listen to the sound it makes

No S/C
SC14 b16a project :: No S/C 1st 2nd 3rd gears

With S/C
SC14 b16a project :: S/C 1st and 2nd gears

Thanks for your interest. It was a relatively easy setup to do.
I've done 3 of these setups on a b16a, b18c and a b20vtec.
The first setup took approx 1 and a half weeks, but If things went right and I came across minimal issues, I could now knock up a kit in 2 days :-)

Hi I love the build. I love it so much im seriously considering giving it a go myself (i have found a charger). Was wondering how you controled the magnetic clutch in the charger, im under the impression that it is controled by the ecu in the original car?

Thanks or the interest.

It certainly is a piece of cake once you've got a goal and an understanding and of how it is supposed to work.

The charger istself is controlled by the ECU. Several Honda ECU's are able to be reprogrammed and used on other Honda's with different engine combinations. I've used a P08 ECU for this project. The original ECU was a P30.

Honda ROM editors such as Crome, Hondata, EcTune, Neptune have features that enable unused outputs of the ECU to be controlled based on certain parameters. Since I've removed the original aircon unit, I decided to used the original loom that powered the aircon clutch to instead power the S/C clutch.

I've used Crome to control the charger in this particular case. Apart from a couple of bugs to start with (typical of the software), all worked out well in the end.

I'm currently in the process of selling my S/C B20/vtec, so that I can concentrate on starting a twin-charged setup . . .

ahh i see that makes sense.

I know nothing about mapping so i will have to find someone good to do that for me.
I was reading your thread on the other site. twin charged setup sounds cool, i look forward to seeing more about it.
