Sup Guys, Ive got some questions for you you can probably answer in 2 minutes.
 
I have a b18a going into a 91 Si CRX. I've decided to turbocharge it. I know that I am ordering pistons, rods, larger injectors, an adjustible fpr, walbro fuel pump, and a zdyne standalone.

The questions I have are as follows.

1. Why should I choose a Zdyne over Hondata for this b18a setup?
2. Whats the perfect turbine maps for a b18a if I want to have very little lag but the ability to push a bar of boost, is a t04e the best choice in model?
3. Am I safe with eagle rods and je pistons alone with the the afforementioned fuel supplies if i want to run 15psi at the track, or do i need a zilla sleeve too?
4. What is the benefit of an external wastegate, is an internal WG just as good? Why Tial over Delta?
5.Knowing that this is a b18a going into a 91 CRX Si that I will build and turbocharge, and that I have moderate experience in engine mechanics and a DIY mech, what is the biggest piece of advice or warning you could give me that isn't obvious?

1. Zdyne plugs in and you dont have to deal with the OBD1 conversion. (pain in the ass)

2. I have never tried a T04e, so I honestly dont know. You are probably looking for a smaller T3/T4 57 trim .48/.63 (, or a just a large T3. 60 trim. The 14b is also another option, if you want to use a DSM turbo, it will spool fast, and support your boost level.

3. I think you will be just fine, be sure to upgrade the fuel pump, since the stock crx pumps cannot deliver enough fuel for that much boost. As far as sleeves cracking and what not, if its tunned correctly, you should be fine. I am going to do the same thing as you, but use stock pistons/stock rods. 10psi on the street.

4. External wastegates control boost better, some people have problems with internal wastegates crepping like a mother fucker (high boost levels), especially the dsm guys. I prefer the Tial, just because of its construction, it uses a spring where as the deltagate has a weird diaphram inside. But lots of people have had no problems with internal wastegates... its all preference.

5. Running that much boost on the street in that kinda car, you WILL have traction issues.. Put a LSD tranny in before you install the motor. Doesnt matter if its a factory lsd or a Quaife unit. This will save you time later on, and you will be a very happy camper!

Oh and since you won't chat over aim, hehe, now you've got me all perturbed as to how your gonna manage 10psi safely with the stock internals on my baby 18a. Do tell! *I know its not true* But why do people act like the b18 is the weakest motor honda ever produced cuz its r/s ratio isnt *perfect* like the b16, lol.

This is the motor that is currently in my 89 crx si..

LS/VTEC B18b
Stock Pistons
Stock Rods
Stock GSR Cams

Zdyne Gold SECU w/ 450cc DSM injectors.

I am pretty confident that it will handle 10psi on pump gas. Its all in good tuning! I will be putting a turbo setup on very soon.

Cool, I was going to go na lsvtec too but then hmotorsonline screwed me and I decided to start with the turbo setup first and add the head later when funds are more abundant. Were the valve recessions on the piston head deep enough or did you have to enlarge them, that was one thing I never found out. What 1/4 time have you achieved with that setup?

The valve reliefs are plenty big, no mods at all..

I have not taken it to the track, since it is winter, and I just installed it, I did make a pass on the dyno 175, so about 200 at the flywheel or so. Should be pretty easy to hit mid to high 13's on slicks.

Heh, funny in that other post you linked how you mentioned kids grabbing a 175k mile b18a. Just cuz im curious, did you say a over b for any particular reason, or just the age factor? The b18a I have has 160k miles, so you think new bearings for the bottom end would be good huh? Anything else you'd do to a motor with this many miles before throwing on the turbo? *of course remembering the internals and stuff i mentioned above*

You just have to be careful, I dont know what type of shape your bottom end is, if its tired or what. but yes, its always good to do a rebuild before any project you start. Lots of kids just slap these heads on cars and go drive the ---- out of them.

I would recommend a Vtec oil pump,

Boost creep is a bitch in an internally wastegated turbo. If you put in a big exhaust system (ie. 3") and you have an internally gated turbo, you are just asking for that boost level to peak, hold, then spike at like 25 lbs. GO strictly external. Your boost will be way more accurate and you wont risk the explosion of your motor, built or not.

Trust me, I know of the boost creep.
