sunfire
I need some info on the sunfire 20e engine ( build around 89 / 90 ) (american car).
It's a 2.0 liter 8v turbo engine. I own a 20seh engine which basically is the same engine only without turbo. I need to know what the part number is of the pistons or where I could find more information regarding this engine. I have a cr of 10:1 and the 20e engine has 8.5:1 which would be perfect. The problem is that I live in the Netherlands and the 20e engine is only sold in the USA so finding information is very hard. Any information would be appreciated. |
Re:sunfire
The 89-90 weren't sunfires..they were sunbird ;)

Re:sunfire
even the turbo ones are slow, just use the turbo parts to make a HMT honda
|
Re:sunfire
Sorry my fault, it's ofcourse a sunbird.
Slow? how much Hp does an HMT honda push? I know the 2.0 8v turbo engine can be pushed to 260 Hp without any problems (stock internals ). If you take this engine and put a 16v head on it, it can easily be pushed to 325 Hp. The 16v head is also widely available here. Edit: Offcourse you need to change the injection system (More fuel) and a bigger intercooler is necessary but for the rest it's pretty straight forward. |
Re:sunfire
i see 1 possible problem with putting the 16v head on a 8v block. piston valve reliefs. u might need the 16v pistons aswell. lets hope that a shorter rods is the reason for the lower CR ;)

Re:sunfire
A stock 1990 sunbird weighs approx. 2450lbs. A stock 1990 crx weighs approx. 1950lbs. That is about 500 more pounds then a civic/crx. Those horsepower readings are to the flywheel whats the loss to the wheels 10% or 20% something like that? So much more factors that you need to include in then just horsepower, you could have a lot of horsepower and no torque and go nowhere, no traction, stuff like that factors in more then just oh i have 1000 horsepower but im on stock suspension, stock tires and stock driveshafts and ---- like that.

Re:sunfire
1990 crx hf weighs 1950.. si is 2200 or so ;)

Re:sunfire
If I were you I would just turbo it until you get the pistons.
Make a nice mani and turbo that thing. My mom used to have a sunbird...but it was an auto... |
Re:sunfire
Offcourse it's not only the HP number that counts but a statement like sohcrxsi stating that all sunbirds are slow is also BS.
In the Netherlands we have the following engines: C20NE - 2.0 8v 115Hp 20SEH - 2.0 8v 130Hp C20XE - 2.0 16v 156 Hp C20LET - 2.0 16v turbo 204Hp With my car 900Kg's rear wheel drive and the 20seh engine I have never lost from a CRX or CIVIC even VTec's. With my other car 1.8 8v 115Hp front wheel drive I have also never lost from a CRX or CIVIC including VTEC. This is not to start a fight or whatever. It's just my opinion. Now I would like to continue in a normal matter. Further with the thread. Putting the 16v head on the 8v engine requires pistons with valve reliefs but in that case I could use the pistons from the 16v engine. I could use the 16v turbo pistons in my engine block but since they are designed for 16 valves they have valve reliefs which I don't need. Therefore I am lookingg fir the 2.0 8v turbo pistons. But this engine unfortunately has only been sold in the US. |
Re:sunfire
those pistons were made by mahle. so contacting them would be the easiets way of getting a set. as for the EFI stuf GM was kind and equiped your car with a turbo computer here in the states, ahhhh
