So it has nothing to do with the amount of boost pressure that is actually being built up in the charge pipes?

So it won't "go off early", or "need to be set correctly" or anything like that?

Most blow off valves are not even adjustable. The valve should be closed while boosting. They are very simple to hook up, just run a line from your intake manifold to the top of the valve.
