struggling with 14b turbo

the compressor housing is giving me a hard time. with the location and since i have power steering and would like to keep it i dunno what to do. any ideas... for the main intercooler pipe, coming off the turbo.

Get the weld flange from RRE and do a custom one. That thing is a bitch.

Re:struggling with 14b turbo

i would say order the flange for it and just weld the piping to your specific needs..

Re:struggling with 14b turbo

it's funny you guys say that. because i have that flange! I dont have a welder, so between my garage and my friends the angle got mixed up and screwed me last month when i tried to put it together. im thinking the best way to do it would be to weld a short piece of pipe that clears the exhasut manifold and power steering pump. then use some form of radiator hose to get it in front of the radiator or around it somehow...sound like a plan?

Johnny, isn't that your oil return we're looking at on top...I thought that caused problems....

Looka again. I'm pretty sure that pic was taken from underneath of the car. See the manifold "under" the turbo? Unless he put the manifold on upside down...

Re:struggling with 14b turbo

i took the bitch apart now and rotated the comp. housing, and tossed the 14b wastegate acuator.

Re:struggling with 14b turbo

it seems to me that with a place of steel, a bandsaw and about 30 minutes of time you could make an adapter bracket to keep the stock actuator.

......... well thats what i'm going to try anyway.

kyle h. 11-03-2003 07:37 PM

Re:struggling with 14b turbo

i've read that the stock acutator isnt so good and the carb spring works better and i can adjust my boost lower than 7-8psi.

turboboy 11-03-2003 07:42 PM

Re:struggling with 14b turbo

just using a carb srping isnt really good at all...not easy to adjust, and (in my experience) the boost can spike at part throttle where there is less exhaust pushing up against the spring....use a real actuator, you can fin ones that open at low pressure

kyle h. 11-03-2003 10:52 PM

Re:struggling with 14b turbo

but then i cant rotate the housing

turboboy 11-03-2003 10:57 PM

Re:struggling with 14b turbo

get creative....take the actuator off, then re-mount it once youve spun the housing
