Strange PF PF PF PF sound

2 weeks ago my chargepipe came loose. drove aroud for 2 weeks and 2 weeks later i reconnected the chargepipes.

Bur now the BOV wont open, and i hear a PF PF PF PF PF PF PF sound when im shifting gears.
i have a greddy-look BOV. and im running @ 4,5 psi boost.
the sound is like a sqq bov, but al lot more quiet.

i disconnected the BOV and noticed it was working normal, i never changed anything to my setup, but 1 took out 1 spring of the bov, and adjusted it to soft.
now the PSSSSFFHHH sound is back, but not as loud as it was before. and i still hear the PF PF PF PF sound.

the sound is comming from the disconnected charpipe or tubro or somewhere over there.
i cant test it when im in neurtral, because there wont be boost.

I need help

Re: Strange PF PF PF PF sound

which spring did you take out? the soft or hard
have you checked the bov diaphragm to make sure it doesn't have cracks.
also does your greddy knock off have two nipples or just the one?

I still hear the sound. and the bov is working, ive read some stuff about surge, but befor the chargepipe popped of, i never had this sound.

the bov has 1 vacuum nipple. i dont think its a bov problem.. the pf pf pf is comming from the other side in the engine bay.

Re: Strange PF PF PF PF sound

ya its coming from the other side of the engine bay...aka where the turbo is..and as everyone else said its compressor surge meaning your bov is not opening properly either because theres a vacuum leak..or its just fucked.

Re: Strange PF PF PF PF sound

ok, so there must be a vacuum leak, cos the BOV is only opening at a soft adjusted spring setting.
ill rechek all the vac lines.
i hope i ont fucked up my turbo by overspooling it.

I can't believe no one has asked this yet, but why the f@ck did you drive around for 2 weeks before reconnecting your charge pipes?? Didn't you notice you had a boost leak?? ::)

Re: Strange PF PF PF PF sound

You didn't notice that he's actually two weeks ahead of all of us? It blew off two weeks ago...drove around for two weeks which would bring him to right now and then two weeks from now he finally connected it back up. I think it's cause you haven't actually connected it back up since that would be two weeks from right now. But seriously, why did you drive around for soo long with it unconnected? You just sound like an idiot from what you posted so far. Maybe you should stick to a bicycle or get a bus pass.

i dont know whats wrong with this stillnoturbo idiot, and his back to the future fetish...
Im not from USA, im from holland and my english isnt so good...
this is a forum where people can post their problems, and people post solutions,
so far your "funny talk" didnt helped us at all

I didnt reconnected the chargepipes because i pimply didnt had the time for it, and it was raining all the time, and when i got home it was already dark outside.

i think the problem is indeed the BOV, today i tested another 1, and this 1 does open at idle. mine doesnt. i think a rubber ring is stopping the bov from opening. if i push the valve a little bit it opens.

the bov doesnt show signs of cracks

Re: Strange PF PF PF PF sound

problem solved! the rubber gasket in the BOV had a cut in it.

I've put some windowkit on it an now its working 100% :)

Re: Strange PF PF PF PF sound

"In" or "Under"? If it was "In", that was the diaphragm. A BOV with a bad diaphragm will lead to compressor surge, as described...

BTW if you did have compressor surge, thats as bad or worse than overspinning the turbo, which probably happened too if you beat on your car with the charge pipe disconnected. Surge basicly makes the shaft bounce around, and can dig into the bearings & ruin any dynamic seals in the turbo.

Re: Strange PF PF PF PF sound

it was the Rubber thing INside. it is fixed. there is no surge anymore, and the BOV opens at idle.
i only had surge for a few days, but didnt drive the car. so there isnt any danger.
the disconnected chargpipe was more dangerous. i drove it aroud for 2 weeks. but i drove like a grandpa. mayby 1 time i had to hurry to work :P
