stock civic 1/2 size radiator, cool enough for boost??

how many of you run the stock civic 1/2 size rad with your turbo set-up,
and how good of a job does it do cooling?
also i would be nice if you posted your hp numbers and set-ups,
to see what these rads can handle.
thanks

I plan on making 300 hp with one.

It's done all the time with no problems whatsoever.

Running the neon radiator in my crx. Its smaller than the half size civic radiator and its been doing good so far.

boosted b18c 7-8 psi with half sized rad no problems I also run water wetter I think thats what its called its a product (pink in coulor) its supposed to reduce heat and lubricates and conditions the cooling system.

if you run a serious setup good luck fitting anything but a half.

Half is fine, just try and keep exhaust parts away from it if you're running a reg 92-95 single core.

street imports aka Yonaka has some pretty killer prices on ebay for 1/2 size thick core aluminum ones. Very nice units, I've used a couple of them.

my stock one basically blew out driving on the highway...aluminum radiator and slim now and no problems what so ever

Re: stock civic 1/2 size radiator, cool enough for boost??

...waiting for miro_gt to come in and say the half-ass wont cool for ---- :P ::)

i did a poll about this, and 85% said they did not overheat with stock cooling setup. and half of those who DID either moved their stock radiator around or had a huge downpipe TOUCHING the radiator.

you'll be fine

EDIT: forgot to add i've been DD'ing my boosted y7/y8 for over a year with NO overheat issues on stock rad/fan setup

Re: stock civic 1/2 size radiator, cool enough for boost??

My setup is not boosted yet, but I have a half size dual core in there. Should be a dual core. Have to throw my slim fan on there though, still haven't done that. My car is an Integra LS 97. For some reason my car never gets up to operating temperature unless I'm driving in the city, stop/go, for a while. Besides that it always stays like 1/4 or less. I know it's cold as hell out now. Could also be that I took out my a/c condensor and that I got the half there is a lot of room in the engine bay for heat to escape? But IDK does it cool that good? LOL. Especially if I'm driving on the highway also, the temperature will drop, or even when it was warmer out but raining, same thing would happen, driving on the highway the temperature would drop some?

When i boost it it might be another story though. I kind of mocked up the setup and it seems that there has to be a VERY Sharp curve on the downpipe right off the turbine (as I'm having the turbine on the passenger side) and the downpipe will come VERY VERY close to the radiator and slim fan, pretty much alsmost touching it. Hope I don't melt anything. Thinking about wrapping the downpipe. You think wrapping it will be a big help? I don't want my radiator to have heatsoke, or even melt, or the fan. And I definitely don't want to over heat in the summer. Bad enough I had to take my A/C out already, so boost better be worth it

Sorry I wasn't much help :-\

Re: stock civic 1/2 size radiator, cool enough for boost??

Sounds like you need a new thermostat. Its stuck open so when you drive on the highway or in the rain your car cools right down. It should maintain operating temperature.

Yeah, i was just thinking that. Although today it got up to operating temperature. I guess because I had the heat off.

so delsol ones are half size but dual core(thicker)?

Re: stock civic 1/2 size radiator, cool enough for boost??

I'm using a neon radiator as well. I have a high powered slim fan on there, and I wrapped my manifold, downpipe, and dumptube with heat wrap. So far I haven't had any problems, but I haven't been boosted very long with this setup, so we will have to see what happens once the summer rolls around.

Good luck finding one. They are hard as ---- to find. I called every single auto parts store in my area, all the junk yards, and even the dealership, none could get a hold of a 1/2 sized radiator.

I ended up finding one on eBay for sale. Just keep your eyes open, they are hard to find, but they are sooo easy to install it's worth it.

just bought an aluminum one off ebay for 100 shipped. You can get them for under 100 all day long on there.

Re: stock civic 1/2 size radiator, cool enough for boost??

the neon radiators come from sohc NON-A/C equipped, 5 speed neons. they are pretty eaty to install, but you obviously need an external rad cap. i modded the one off a stock neon to fit, but getting a nice one from summit would be better

i run a dual core 92-95 auto civic radiator in my DC2 now, runs perfectly cool, no problems ever, even on 90+ degree days doing 2nd gear burnouts ;)

Word on the dual core auto 92-95 rads, I got one on my car. The weird thing is I pulled it off a 5 speed EX.

Any problems with the cap sealing? We ran one for a season on my business partners car and it spit all over. This season both of us are running one, but we plan on replacing the fillers/cap with a summit weld on unit.

I may also have to look into this...the guy who is fabbing up my downpipe says that the exhaust housing on my turbo(Blaast T3/T4) is gonna be REALLY close to my radiator...do you guys think that a half radiator will be sufficient to cool a 2.5 liter engine? I thought about at least trying it and running water wetter and all as well. My car is a Nissan(SpecV) and my radiator hoses(at least the top one, cylinder head to radiator) are on the drivers side of the car. Have any of you guys mounted ur radiator on the drivers side. I think it's doable I just haven't looked under my hood yet to see, since I just found out this was gonna be a problem...

Should be fine, just make sure you get a dual core. If you are running hotter than you want you can always use a separate switch to turn on your fan all the time.

We're running a half-sized radiator in a 90 DA Integra... No overheating problems what so ever... It's the cheap radiator too from E-Gay
