STILL burning oil..

Well, my turbo is STILL burning oil...

I have a .055" or so restrictor on it, 1/2" return all down hill, and it is still burning..

Gettin kind of sick of this.. its a nissan 300z t3, and was rebuilt by blaast performance a while ago..

I am using 5w40 shell rotella t syn oil in it..

I can actually see the oil in between the center section and hotside..

Re: STILL burning oil..

There is a big cloud after a full throttle run.. a solid amount of smoke for about 5 seconds afterwards.. or while starting from sitting for a few..

I am gonna try moving the restrictor to the turbo side, it is on the T at the moment..

I know its not rings b/c my compression is 190/185/190/185, which is exactly at the factory spec... and the fact that oil is visible on the outside between the center section and the turbine housing lol..

It seemed to be a good rebuild, and a great price, but I dunno now :-\

Im not certain, but is it possible that the valvetrain could be worn? Eg. Valve seals, Valve guides.

a possibility, but I doubt that just because of the oil visible on the outside of the turbo, a tell-tale sign of oil gettin past the seal :(

check your charge pipes, see if it throwing some oil in there, if it is, just snag another one on ebay, they are a time a dozen. also, i suggest running mobil 1 15w50 in any boosted car.

no oil in the charge pipes, not even a film ???

is it a particular seal/washer that is the culprit for the loss of oil on the turbine side? could I replace it myself if I marked the wheel location upon disassembly to not lose balance?

Re: STILL burning oil..

i've been having the exact same problems as you. oil restrictor, stealthmode oil lines, turbo leaking on the outside of the turbo, burning a -----ton of oil.... i rebuilt the turbo, and it was alright for like a week, then it started up again. i just assumed that the center cartraige was bad. i've tried everything else, so now i'm just gonna replace the center and wheels

I have oil on my turbo, but its because the oil feed fitting on the turbo is loose :8 this probably isn't your problem, but you never know. sometimes the most obvious answer is the last one to be checked.

Re: STILL burning oil..

When I was having similar problems with my tt 5.0 mustang, it was blowby pressurizing the oil drain and forcing oil out the seals. I went thru rebuilding the turbos, changing lines, messing with restrictors etc and finally realized it was the motor. New motor now, no problems. Try doing a leakdown test on your motor.

Re: STILL burning oil..

i had the same problem with that same turbo, but mine lasted about 3 weeks and then started, and mine ended up throwing oil into the charge piping too.
