Starting new setup. What do you think?

Ok all my ---- got stolen while I was at school so now I am starting a new "unstealable" setup. I am going to do the normal built block but sleeved. Here are the things I think I will be getting.

D16z6 or Y8
Ramhorn mani
Garrett GT2860RS GT28RS Disco Potato Turbo
tial wastegate
10.5 CR
forged internals
Crane turbo cam
Edlebrock victor x intake mani
3" exhaust
golden eagle sleeves
new injectors. not sure what size yet.
new clutch. my centerforce is toast anyway.
new ecu. stolen
traction bars
I think thats it for now.

Any suggestions would be good

Re: Starting new setup. What do you think?

IMO:
1. I would choose the D16Z6.
2. Stock D16Z6 sleeves have held up to 400+ whp, so, I would skip the Golden Eagle sleeves.
3. DSM 450cc injectors - good for about 280-300whp (depends on your goal).
4. 8.5:1 or 9.0:1 CR are more boost friendly.
5. ACT HD-XTSS clutch kit - rated at 280 lb/ft torque.
6. ECU chipped for either Crome, Uberdata or Neptune - Xenocron FTW.

I was thinkng more of the head flow on the 2 blocks
I had the 450cc on my last setup. I think they were to big for my last setup. But
yes I am shooting for around 300hp.
And the compression I have wanted to do a high compression turbo setup for a while and I am pretty stuck on that.
I really don't about the ACT clutch because I have heard that the pedel pressure is really high. But I know they hold
Now that you mention Neptune I might go with that. I had turboedit before with the Vtec coming out of the a/c pin which worked really good.

if your going to build the y8 invest in a high flow oil pump

but i think i want to see something happen... not a list! ;)

Re: Starting new setup. What do you think?

Oh it will happen I just have to get everything together. I just got out of school and I don't have anymoney. I first have to get my car running because everything was stolen. No injectors, ecu, or anything. It might be a while before I get any big ticket items. On the Y8 thats in my car now I was using a Z6 water pump and Z6 oil pump. Not sure if thats why it started making a weird noise but I will crack it open and get pictures. I am interested myself.

Are you kidding. It will be fast. Why wouldn't it be fast? My last $800 project was fast but not fast enough. What do you suggest I do?

Don't EVER put HMT into another magazine.

At least until Josh can get back :(

Re: Starting new setup. What do you think?

needs 4 more cyclinders, 1 more turbo and about 3000cc more,
we all know the bigger the engine the more potential to make more power!!!

ever consider a engine transplant???

just my opinion...

Why not? Probably because of the flood newbs? or because of you think that my new setup will be stupid?

Re: Starting new setup. What do you think?

Yeah the alarm system will be the first thing going on it when I get it running. I think a pager alarm would be good. I really don't know. I have never bought one.

Yes it does. The only problem that you have with that is that you won't have a dipstick because the dipstick on the Y8 is on the oil pump and I have a z6 pump.

Keep it simple. A simple setup thats put together right will get you a long way.

Re: Starting new setup. What do you think?

Just stick with a z6. The "headflow" that you speak of between the two is minimul, and they both have their drawbacks as well. Only thing that people gasp in awe about on y8 heads is the combustion chamber design, which is pretty much identical to a gsr combustion chamber, built to aid in proper fuel burn and better quench. Z6 heads typicly have a better cfm rate, due to the shape of the ports stretching into the bowls. Either way, each is offset by differences that pretty much makes them just as good as the other. And usually z6's are cheaper and more plentiful, at least where I live.
