I love camrys, beat the ---- out of them and they just keep on rollin. Buddy in class has one, oil filter right there infront easy to get to and non-interference so can break timing belts all day.

Congrats on the project, i wanna see how well it turns out. I'm actually a certified Toyota mechanic and with all kinds of toyota parts at my disposal ive wanted to get into a similiar project.. im interested in what engine management youre going to use! good luck, lemme know if u need any help with anything.,

I will be using a GReddy Emanage Ultimate w/ the AFR Harness to tune and datalog. I will also be using an AEM wideband Gauge, Autometer mechanical boost/vac and an eletrical oil pressure gauge to also assist me in tuning.

I will start tuning with street and driving, get it a pretty decent tune so I can run it hard if it comes to it. I will then get it dyno'd and tuned once the bugs are worked out.

Dang there have been a lot of toyota's on here lately. Its good to see other cars on here besides hondas, not that there bad or anything. Anyways it looks like you have done your research and it should come out just fine. Good luck. :)

Kroze 03-22-2006 07:59 AM

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

cool i never knew that they're a direct bolt on. pretty sweet. 3sfe & 5sfe i guess uses the same manifold.

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

Is yours an auto or a stick?

My buddy has an the idental car/engine and would love to turbo his, but it's auto. Cool project though man, car looks good and it seems like you're heading in the right direction :)

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

the mani bolts right up, but it is going to interfere with your oil filter (im pretty sure you need a relocation kit) and the dipstick tube, but you can just bend it for clearance. Those filter kits are expensive too. Looks like you did your homework though.. good luck, my last car was a 5sfte celica

redphoenix 03-22-2006 01:48 PM

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

I already bent the tube, so it should be good. The oil filter isnt in the way of the turbo.. its a downwards downpipe that gets in the way. Im having a different downpipe madeso steer clear of that area. I want to get a relocation kit however :)

Its an auto... unfortunatly. Im using a large tranny cooler. Recently flushed and checked, seems in good condition. This coming summer, I want to take the trip to SC and have my buddy do a swap for me.

Yeah, its quite a project, feared by camry owners :P. Im one of the few who have done it on a camry... so its one of those things that make you feel warm and fuzzy.. :X

I think all im waiting for is my downpipe... which comes this saturday.. latest :)

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

All i know is that it will be very OEM style... Even has its stock heatshield ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...o/DSC02498.jpg

should I bypass my stock tranny cooler for my large 10x15 cooler or use both?

HMTguy 03-23-2006 08:58 PM

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

2 tranny coolers should be better than one I guess.

Nice project, and your car looks very nice.

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

um.....that`s what i think but everyone else tells me it`s not worth it.
may be a 3sGTE swap will fix everything

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

<waves @ RP>
Donald125 Beware of the 3s-gte swap.
Toyota makes a good dozen "general nothing special" car engines that are fairly safe @ 400bhp when run safely. The 3s-gte is oddly one of the smaller, and more expencive engines on tha list. ;)
As the saying goes... Why buy a 3s-gte if you can make a 1uz-fe, or 6cyl fit for a grand less??? ;D

sohcpwr 03-27-2006 04:20 PM

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

what are you going to make a camry rear wheel drive for a grand less than a 3s swap? I hope your ------- joking. Granted the 3s is more than in depth, and your getting yourself into a steamy pile of ---- if you dont get a whole front clip, but id do that over a v8 conversion anyday. The turbo 5sfe is the way to go. If it doesnt make enough power, ------- build the motor. Its easy and cheap... wish i still had my car. Id be putting 500hp to the ground by now

good to see you have a tranny cooler in there. People with ATX's forget those, boost tthe crap out fo the car, and then wonder why the tranny trakes a ---- 10K miles later.

Re: Start of my Turbo Camry....

Hey guys jsut an update. Car was smoking real bad. The oil drain got kinked badly so i fixed it with a 90* bend and it seems the oil burning has gone down a tremendouse amount.

Tuning has started and the car is very driveable to 3500rpms. Im going past that right now. so wish me luck! Ill get some more pics later for you guys.
