Stainless Steel Braid Oil Return Line
 

My return line is stainless steel wrapped in rubber, and i was unfortunate enough to have it put very very close to the downpipe. Pretty much it is touching the downpipe. Will this line be ok or should i wrap it in heat wrap? I can't actually move it right now.

mmmm, I'd try to get it away from the downpipe at some point but for now put something in between the pipe and the line to prevent the inside from melting. I know it's stainless braded but that'll still get pretty damn hot and the last thing you need is to loose all your oil on the ground and ruin an engine.

How long do i have before that line melts?

lol I really don't know but would you want to chance it? Is there any way to rotate the center section to give a little more slack on the oil line? Maybe you can zip tie i out of the way for now? Or just use a piece of fuel line hose for now thats long enough to stay away from the heat?

Good idea, My question is, If i wanted to fix my setuo to where i have no problems, what could i do? Right now i'm running a T3 setup with a downpipe that is too close to the oil return line. My downpipe is on the a/c compressor side of the engine bay. What i want to do is make it where i have no worries. I also have no o2 sensor and i need to encorporate that. So what do i do?

Hmmm, I had the same oil line trouble with my first setup. The way the downpipe crosses in front of the oilpan to loop around, it's hitting your oil line. I remember I used a piece of fuel line large enough for an oil return and I had it long enough so that it stayed clear of the downpipe. Then I zip tied it to the charge pipe that came off the compressor housing. The line was pretty long, but did it's job.
One word of advice though, be careful not to over tighten any zip ties you'll have holding the line. Somehow my line kinked where I had a zip tie and it smoked the seals in my turbo. After I built a second setup, I just kept the exhaust housing of the turbo on the pass. side and that solved the oil return problem.
As for your O2, you'll need to list more about your setup so I know what you have to work with. What engine management, what year/ engine and what OBD ecu your running etc.

Ok that sounds great. Um i have a D15b7, FMU, OBD1, Broken Sensor, no socket. I need a way for the o2 sensor to read and the light to go off. This is my first turbo setup and it truly a homemade turbo

Well really since your OBD1 and running an FMU for management, there really isn't any way around that CEL for the O2. I'd suggest getting an O2 simulator but in reality your ecu has a set limit of fuel programmed into it and based on alot of other sensors (your O2 being one of them) it adjusts accordingly. So if you did get the simulator, it might shut your CEL off, but the ecu won't be adjusting and running the way it should, and for the price of a simulator you can probably find a used or good O2 sensor in a junkyard or here on HMT for much less.
What are your expectations for this setup? Do you want it to last? Do you want to get some decent power from it? Or is this just an inexpensice setup to mess around with? There are other, more reliable, safer, and better way's to tune/run your turbo setup without using that FMU. You can run one of the many free editors out there and chip/ have your ecu chipped to shut off that O2 sensor and eliminate the CEL. If your interested in possibly going that route, PM me or let me know. I along with many others on this site can chip and set you up with a basemap to run that setup safely.

Definately ;) That was one of the first guages I ever had. And still have :-\ I didn't know I smoked my turbo until I told my brother, "hey, we just smoked those guy's look how far back they are"... His reply went a little something like this... "Steve why's your car smoking so much?" Hah, it was the funnies thing and there were some serious clouds of smoke exiting my exhaust. I am so glad I didn't get pulled over.
