Re:SRT 4 buy or not?

arnt they like 19 grand brand new?

I guess it really depends on how messed up it is, and if you can deal with fixing the rest of the stuff.

1) It is just a neon

2) Think about what you could do to your civic/crx w/ $10,000.

Nuff said.

most of the time people buy project cars that are wrecked but salvagable and get in way over their heads.. Doing light body work is easy, trying to rebend unitie vehicles is a bitch.. why do u think insurance paid body shops make so much money?

youll never get a loan from a real bank with the salvage title. you would have to do a personal loan which if you live with your parrents still isnt going to happen. I wouldnet get it for that fact, and that if you want to sell it or trade it in isnt going to be easy with that title.

Also, check insurance rates. It's harder to get insurance on a salvage title, and I've heard that rates on the srt4 are high anyway.

buy the car, fix it and sell it. make a few bucks on it.

The srt is a bad ass car.I want it.

There are many threads/arguements about it in the general discussion.

ive got a salvage title on my rex and my insureance dident care.

Re:SRT 4 buy or not?

I dont really think the insurance will care if you have a clean driving record. thats how they judge you. they dont know you, just your record. so if you have a shitty record, then you insurance will be crazy and high risk. if you have nothing on your record, it will be easy and cheap.

its funny how people who drive Civics and other Hondas have such ill will towrads Neons ::)

I know this is HMT, but there are so many other cars out there to experience and spend money on rather than build some $10k dream used Civic ::)

Re:SRT 4 buy or not?

I love the SRT4 ( minus the ricer wing ), but a salvage title cuts the price in about half, and the fact that its been wrecked reduces the value even more...

I saw a 04' red SRT4 with like 6K miles and optional side airbags for $18K, so your saving about 6K for a wrecked car with a salvage title...

I'm sure he has other people lined up to buy it, but that diesn't mean you gotta be that person to make a mistake.

Just keep saving your money and get an 04' in about a year that has like 10K miles on it for like $14K-$16K...

MikeJ-2009 08-04-2004 12:49 PM

Re:SRT 4 buy or not?

It's not what he can do with $10k in his civic, it's what he can do with $2k to his civic that will easily take that pile of "college girl car". :D

Buying a fast car doesn't mean anything. You just pay for it.

Re:SRT 4 buy or not?

Since this is coming from a bunch of civic machanics, I'm not supprised that no one meantioned the SRT's 5 year warrenty... ( Of course the salvage title doesn't have it, and I hope he doesn't buy it ).

How many 13sec civics last 5 years ? The 13sec civics that have built motors ( maybe )..

Lets not even figure how much it would cost to PAY someone to do all the work on a turbo civic everytime it breaks...

If you don't like a 4banger that runs high 13's ( ideal conditions in the winter ) stock, has a 5 year warrenty, and has been "overbuilt" to handle at least 450hp ( so far ) then your either dumb or Jealous, I tend to think its the second one.......

I own a HMT D16 Civic, so... I'm not really bias... Not to meantion I've always hated neons ( not for the name, for the POS that they always were ).

If Ford built a 13sec new pinto and it was $15K, I'd buy it, if I saw everyone making 450hp easy and not breaking anything....

What's in a name ?

Re:SRT 4 buy or not?

If not buying a neon because it runs high 13's (in ideal conditions), has a 5 yr. warranty ::), and is "over built" makes me jealous, than I guess I am. My $4,000 built D crx will run high 13's on drag radials at 10psi all day long. I guess I should have spent that extra $15,000 for the 5 yr warranty. :P

Re:SRT 4 buy or not?

See, thats how fast it is. You don't even see it. ;D

I guess I'm only speaking for myself, but 15k can go along way towards other things in life when your in the "HMT age" range. Cars aren't the only things that are needed in life. Turbo IS though. 8)

Re:SRT 4 buy or not?

A brand new car vs a old ass honda isn't a very fair comparision...

That's like saying, " HOndas are stupid, I could put $4000 into a mustang/DSM and go XXX faster for cheaper"...

Man, I'd hate to hear what you guys would say about a $120K 911 AWD turbo...

For all everyone who keeps saying fix it and sell it.ITS FIXED NEEDS NOTHING.i wanted to know if the thing seems realible but parts are a bitch to buy and even harder to get.

you're only young once. this is a honda/acura dominated site in my opinion as you can see so don't expect the greatest responses about buying a dodge. if you realy like it buy it.

its not supposed to be. the ricers flock'd here though

I think you know the answer yourself. But you haven't realized it yet.
Here is a quote to the answer you gave yourself.
"but i hate to have to pay some one my pay checks for a couple of years"
It will be a headache for you. I've learned my lesson with loans etc...to buy this and that.
Right now I settled for a Civic EF that I always wanted, but I'd like a EG better. But right now if i look at it, I'm in love with my EF .... it takes me where I want it to and it's easy to work on...since i fixed it there has been no problems and drives worry free. And it didn't rip open a new ass hole in my bank account ;D.

Re:SRT 4 buy or not?

you could push 5's with 120k only hard part is getting your chassis approved for top fuel. or you could build like 5 8 second dragsters out of old top fuel chassis there not alloud to run anymore.

with 120k id own a turbo busa
an mr2
a 1985 supra with a 2jz swap
a kit car.
and put a down payment on an apartment building.

i know one thing i wouldent buy

A NEON SRT 4
ive delt with dodge with my moms boyfreinds trucks tranmission over and over again
they have rebuilt it like 6 times
they WILL NOT give him a new tranmission
we have contacted chrystler they dont care
they say take it and have it rebuilt every single time.

that 12 grand could get you allot of ----
you could have a daily driver and a fast ass whatever you feel like buying.

but if hte srt 4 is what you want. go for it
