SR20DE

what's up nogs? I just pulled an SR20DE out of a '99 Infiniti G20 at the junk yard. the clock says 180k miles, although these miles were on an automatic transmission, the internals look mint, no sludge build up, and the car is immaculant aside from the body damage.. anyway, I'm wondering if you guys think I should replace the bearings and rings while it's out and on a stand. I'm having mixed feelings about it, part of me says if I pull the rods out, i'm putting forged pistons in.. and i'm a broke mofo so that would take forever. in contrast, a part of me says ---- it, put it in a b13 sentra and boost the ---- out of it.. so i'm asking; what's your opinion?

I would just put newbearings and rings and call it a day. BTW stock blocks can take a ton of power.

I just tuned a SR20DET, even though not quite the same, with stock Nissan turbo, stock MAF and upgraded injectors to 289/265ish. Literally the only upgrades were the injectors and a 3" exhaust. 240SX and it was a blast to drive. Car also pulled 33mpg hwy/ 30city. I say bearings/rings and lots of boost. They are stout!

Re: SR20DE

I've decided to throw some bearings and rings in at least.. possibly some stock DET pistons if I can find a set really cheap.
The good part is I already have everything I need to boost it; new turbonetics t3/t04e 57 trim, 780cc injectors, bov, wg, etc.

should be a pretty fun car when I'm done :y
I'll keep you guys updated via this thread

Is the B13 a SE-R or no?

I'm still looking for a B13 shell, found a few, just waiting to get paid.
It would be nice to find an SE-R shell with a blown motor/good transmission, but I doubt that will happen.

Re: SR20DE

if you dont build it and treat it just right, it will die.

it will die if you rev it hard a lot from big end bearing failure. this is a fact.

it will die if you up the boost significantly without doing something about the valve train. this is a fact.

they are a good motor stock, but the rod ratio, rod size, journal size, rocker valve actuation, make them not a happy rever, and not a happy high booster either.

rod bearings will die with time. if you replace them at regular intervals, they will be a non issue.

rockers have to be sorted out.

in JD's words "over hyped", i agree.

to your original question, leave it as is unless you are changing the compression ratio. if its clean and pretty and nice, things will be ok. if you want to check anything, check a big end or two and see if they are on their way. if you are pulling the pistons, lower the compression (the right way) before you boost or you wont be able to push much on pump gas.

That's Glen second to the right. So the actual Misfits...no shitty Michael Graves garbage or now with Dez of pre-Rollins Black Flag. As for getting back to the topic. I'd say just use it the way it is.
