spring wastegate
the actuator on my turbo was a 12psi one, and i didnt want to lengthen it and get crazy lag, so i used a spring. At full throttle i hit about 5 psi which is perfect, but at half throttle (when less exhaust is pushing against the spring, it hits about 8-9)....this sucks, and im going to the yard to get a 5psi actuator as soon as i can because im afraid im gonna blow my little d16y7 up (a/f says its rich but im not sure i trust it)

Re:spring wastegate
Ahhhhhhh the disadvantages of the old spring actuator......thats kinda scary seeing your motor pulling that kinda boost at half throttle. ;D

Re:spring wastegate
what cars have the 5psi actuator because i'm haveing the same probs.
|
Re:spring wastegate
nevermind. found it with the search
|
Re:spring wastegate
how did you solve this problem? i couldnt find it with search...
|
Re:spring wastegate
what i found out from the search is that LeBarons, 84-89 nissan 300zx, and 84-?? nissan 200sx have actuators set at 5-6.5 psi. now the hard part is finding out wich one will mount to a t-25 and which junkyard might have it.

Re:spring wastegate
hmmm
i think i want to go about 6-6.5 psi though. ive been reading that the D series engines can handle up to 7. how can i adjust it? |
Re:spring wastegate
dont the saab's and vulva's come with 5psi WG's?
|
Re:spring wastegate
the t3 thunderbird one fellas only boosts about 6psi.... with a 2.5 inch dp..
|
Re:spring wastegate
I had a thought on how to adjust the boost lower. Leave the wastegate actuator hooked up normally, then put a spring on the end of the arm pulling the wastegate open...this would be the same as replacing the spring in the actuator with a weaker one.

Re:spring wastegate
I actually had that same idea. I think I'll try it on my T3 sometime this weekend. :)

Re:spring wastegate
you said your T25 was set at 12 psi stock, i think its more like 8 psi dude, reason DSM's run 12 psi is because they have a electronic boost controller -like device that ups the boost and lowers it depending on the temp. of the engine.
|
Re:spring wastegate
i'm pretty sure it is 12 psi because my wastegate doesn't even budge until between 12-14psi. maybe mine is differant or something.
|
Re:spring wastegate
hes right the electronic solenoid on the dsm's is what raises the boost on them..
there only really about 8-9psi... have any of you guys tried lengthening the actuator rod. cuttin it in half then putting a thread to actually extend it a bit will give u less quick spool but at the same time it will let you run less boost. jeff has the link, hes sent it to me once but i can't find it. |
Re:spring wastegate
actually i ahev heard the t-birds come boosted higher then 6psi but i could be wrong. I actually remeber seeing 10psi on some stat sheet cuold be wrong though.
