Spring on the internal wastegate !!!
first I was running 5-6psi and the turbo was spooling up kinda slow ( like 3psi super fast, then +1 psi, then +1psi, then +1psi as the RPM would rise ). I tightened up the wastegate rod, and then "WOW !!!" It spooled up super fast and got full boost pretty fast too, and I was happy and it it was maxing out at 10-11psi.
So one day I'm taking a crap at work and notice that the towel dispenser has a bunch of cool springs on it, so I jacked a few, hehe. The next day I put one on the wastegate arm, and the bracket for the wastegate. THEH the turbo spooled even faster ( 13psi by 3700rpms ) and junped another 2-3psi. Just wanted to tell a quick story and let people know about the spring helping spool time and giving me an extra few psi too ( 13psi is where I'm happy at, it still don't throw a CEL using the AFC hack.. ). One of the HMT guys had said that the spring only wastegate systems seemed to spool 14Bs faster, so If you have a 14b or other mistu. turbo you may wanna experiment with adding springs to help spool up, even if you gain 2-3psi, you can always turn the boost down 2psi using the wastegate rod, and keep the spring for spool-up. |
Re:Spring on the internal wastegate !!!
also I'm running a 2 1/4 right angled DP to the factory 1'' DX exhuast that ends at the rear axle ( no muffler ).
