Spooling Later than Normal.

Seems it is taking a lot more rpm to get the damn turbo to boost.
Not sure if im losing compression.
Or the turbo is on its last legs.

Bought the turbo, knowing it needs a rebuild.
Blows plenty of oil into the charge pipes and is leaking also.

Engine has 160k and has shot rings, but surprisingly strong still.

It normally starts to make boost around 3500. About 2psi.
By 4500 it was ALWAYS at 5psi. And by 5500 always at 7psi(max).

Now, I still get that low rpm boost. 1-2 pst from 3-4k. But it wont make 5psi till about 5k or 5500. And 7psi till after 6000 rpm sometimes.

My compression tester is busted.

So what you guys think it is,

Motor lost compression (rings)
Or
Turbo is almost BLOWN.

Re:Spooling Later than Normal.

could be anything...your turbo and motor are in shitty shape, and you might have a leak somewhere (between turbo and manifold or in the pipes)

sounds like my turbo it ended up that the turbine housing was/is cracked ;D

Re:Spooling Later than Normal.

do you hear any exhaust leak? let the car run with the hood open and rev it with your throttle cable, if you have an exhaust leak before the turbo, you should be able to hear it and this will cause later spool, you could also have a leak in the charge piping also bleeding off some of the boost slowly. if not it could be your actual turbo or engine, exhaust leaks are always my first suspect, then charge pipes.

Re:Spooling Later than Normal.

No exhaust leaks. Turbo is welded to mani.
No big charge pipe leaks.
Actually replaced 2 of the Home Depot couplers with silicone couplers because one sprung a leak.

Would the turbo be making noise if it had crack ?

I need to find a new center section for it.
Any links would be great =)
t3 .60/.63.

Thanks.

Re:Spooling Later than Normal.

www.speedpartsrus.com sells center sections for 175, he only advertises .48/.42 and .48/.60, but if you contact him, he may be able to get you a .63/.60

Re:Spooling Later than Normal.

Just sent him an email to ask if he can get the size I need.
If he cant.

Do I just swap my housing for a smaller one ?
BTW. Im not even sure which side is which on my turbo.
Meaning which is hot and cold .60 and .63

Anyone know ?

Thanks for the help guys.

Re:Spooling Later than Normal.

.63 is more than likely your exhaust, but yeah, you could get a .48/.60 center section from him and just swap on a .48 exhaust housing instead of your .63, and it will spool up quicker too.

Re:Spooling Later than Normal.

How much will a .48 exhaust housing cost me ?
Im gonna go egay it and check it out.
