Default Somthing diffrent Remote Turbo?

I have visited allot of forums for good and useful information and are have been apart of many DYI groups.

As of recent there has been some talk about remote mounting of turbos instead of using the traditional means of a direct mount manifold. In this consideration without the manifold it reduces the cost of building a turbo setup to an extent.

Squires Turbo Systems, Inc http://ststurbo.com/about_sts___
has developed a working system and has patented the idea.
there idea is that there turbo system is "superior to traditional turbo systems and superchargers because they are efficient, less intrusive, easy to install, reliable and generate amazing horsepower and torque."
NOTE: there site says very little about the remote turbo system.

Since this type of system has little no following i wonder if its possible to get a group of people together and develop a homemade system or gernal application.

the issue is the size of the turbo aproriate for the engine. to reduce initial boost lag. oiling system to get to the turbos ( the amount of oil line my adjust for the loss for the turbo manifold or not )
if the turbo is equipt with internal waste gate should be easy enough. those turbos that are not and have external systems on this could be some what clumsy but im sure it could be done

intial notes
with the turbo remotely loacted the turbo can take the place of the muffler ( for thos who like open dumps )
this would allow enough space for external waste gates and suspsion device that would have and shield the turbo system from the elements.
problems with remote system for those cars running AFM,MAF,MAS. since the metering device is mounted to turbo its self. plus the extra plumging require to run the charge pipes the extra distances.

it would be interesting seeing the turbo on Civic hatch remotly mounted in the traditional spot of the muffler on the 4th Gen.

at any rate you can decied if its finacialy fesable.

i have allready spent my money that im allowing on the parts to develop my turbo manifold for my NAPZ/NAPS motor (Nissan:Z20E)

hahahaha ------- ----. boostpipe would be 2 long mas of turbo lag not good. air filter under car haha would get full of mud not good. redhot turbo under car with water hiting it would crack the turbo case

i was thinking the same thing... what would protect the turbo and the air element.

unless you ran a snorkel..lol

i thought it was kinda funny and wanted to see what you guys thought

i think the charge pipe would be too long.
and oil lines..
after doing some measurments i think it would be more expensive to do the remote if it was feasable.

SS oil lines arn't cheap
extra weight for charge pipes
lost effectiveness in charge volume you have to fill up the entire length of the pipe plus if you have intercooler
plus that
extra custom built hangers to hold the turbo..

its too expsive in labor and parts

lol..

I met a guy who put his turbo inside of his passengers side front fender. He relocated his battery to the trunk, cut ai holes underneath the fender, ran the piping back through the car, used water injection rather than an ic, works well, without any knock...I'm thinking about doing this on my d series crx

The air filter doesn't get full of mud. They use K&N jackets that keep the water out of the filter.

The turbo housing doesn't crack from water splashing on it either.

They use a pump to pump the oil back to the engine.

I know the CEO of STS and have been there many times. One of the employees had a black CRX with a remote mounted turbo.

They work well in some vehicles, not in others... IMO there are many other better options for Hondas. I once rode in a Toyota Tacoma with an STS kit and it was badass!

I won't go into it anymore because this has been discussed so many times before.
