somethings wrong

This happens only on WOT. About 5000-5500 rpm it makes popping noises out the exhaust. I am a newbie to this. Could it detonation inside the combustion chamber with the popping noise exiting through the exhaust. Please help, I dont want to break anything.

backfiring. ignition problem. cap/rotor worn / wires too fucked (doubtful) or plugs gapped to loose. Replace cap/rotor/[wires] and tighten plug gap to .30. I had teh saem problem. it'll go right away.

wires are wires. They won't change anything at our HP level. They either work or they dont.

Yeah, especially if the car did work at one time and now it doesn't work properly. I mean sure you can get arching in your disty and cause problems with the wires, but I think you should definately check out the disty first.... MSD isn't going to fix a problem like that.

I know the cap is over 2 years old, and the rotor was replaced this past summer. Could timing cause backfiring?

try the cap..

my car does that popping noise too once in a while when i shift or rev it in neutral.

Brand new dizzy, rotor, cap, wires, plugs. Regular oil changes.. I don't have a clue what does it. my car does stumble a little on idle but doesn't stall (but comes REALLY close some times).
