Smokin like a choochoo
Ok,
I was driving home from work and all was good. Until i started boosting and when i came to a stop i was passed by a cloud of smoke that would make an old Diesel truck jealous.i mean BAD It kept smoking all the way home, and even smoked when idleing. I switched the motor off, started it again and the smoke was gone. Now when i drive without boosting it doesn't smoke at all. Could this have anything to do with the PCV system or is it a sign of seals kicking the bucket? |
Re:Smokin like a choochoo
color?

Re:Smokin like a choochoo
i'm colorblind(no ----) but it was definatly oil,and it smelled burned.

Re:Smokin like a choochoo
probably seals..
|
Re:Smokin like a choochoo
ya...but wouldn't it smoke all the time then?
Or does pressure leak from the turbine side to the exhaust side when boosting with bad seals in there? i'll just check my plugs...if i'm burning up oil i bet it'll show on the plugs,if the turbo leaks then the plugs will be clean....good one? |
Re:Smokin like a choochoo
When your engine has a lot of load and is accelerating the oil pressure increases...
|
Re:Smokin like a choochoo
The oil pressure doesn't get more than what the spring in the oilpump is set on.
But when i'm idleing and the oil's at operating temperature, the oil pressure is low.On any car. Yet it still smoked on idle after some boosting. What strikes me is that when i take the car for a calm 30 minute drive later on,it doesn't smoke at all. freakin typos all day...i guess it just ain't my day. |
Re:Smokin like a choochoo
At idle the oil pressure is around 20 psi when in load it get's up too 70psi or more...
And when your done boosting and leaked oil...there is still a substancial amount of oil in your downpipe and exhaust..that's why it's still smoking... |
Re:Smokin like a choochoo
So you don't think the PCV could have anything to do with it?(one can hope aye?)
Aargh i got a dyno run scheduled on the 18th. I be reading the plugs tomorrow, then i'll know for sure. |
Re:Smokin like a choochoo
what would cause smoking when i am backing off (engine braking) the car?
