smoke no oil
Just got the turbo setup completed and started it up to find a batman style smoke screen coming out the tail pipe. It won't idle by itself or rev past 4k(I think that's because of the ecu)the ecu is a chipped PM6 but I don't know what for though. I really worried about the smoke though, the engine was fine before turbo.
I have the restrictor(which I primed prior to startup) in line with turbo feed, the drain line is on negative slope. I pulled the charge piping off but found no oil there. the only other thing I can think of is the turbo. Does anyone have any other suggestions before I rip out the turbo again? that s@#% is a PITA to work with. new thread and pics of the setup to follow if I can get this oil thing worked out. |
Re: smoke no oil
Post some pictures of your oil return. Is this a new turbo or a used one?Im guessing your seals are leaking.

Re: smoke no oil
well...first get your ecu chipped with a known map...and then drive the car for a bit. ive put turbos on that smoked for a while from ---- sitting in them, then it went away

Re: smoke no oil
I'll get pics up when I get home. Turbo is used off of an 87' nissan
I got a willem coming in the mail, I plan to run TurboEdit, I just hope I can get the right map, I've been on Xeno's website and my head starts spinning so I log off. |
Re: smoke no oil
What color smoke? IF the car wont idle by itself its probaly fuel and you're on maybe a stock map sized for smaller injectors. You'd be able to smell it if its fuel.

Re: smoke no oil
At first it was fuel, then I swapped in the chipped PM6, it ran for a minute then started to die so I revved it to keep it running then the grey smoke. teh care didn't smoke at all before therfore I know it must be the setup.
here are pics. I finally figured how to resize..........I think. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h1...100_0271-2.jpg That one isn't too clear this one should help a little, it's the only one I have but it has the little shield on it. I don't think this is kink you be the judge. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h1...s/100_0291.jpg |
Re: smoke no oil
Using a 1987 used turbo without a rebuild is a gamble dude.
I take many of them apart and there's always a huge cookie of burnt oil clogging the piston ring and shaft. Just a preventive rebuild would pull the turbo out of the equation as far as the pssible cause of your smoking problem. |
Re: smoke no oil
or you cuold just pull the turbo off and start it up...that is if this problem occurs all the time not just under load or something like that. id work on getting the ecu set up right first
