smoke coming valve cover
i was running my car kinda hard and it started to bogg when i slowed down. theres all of smoke. i open the hood and theres smoke coming out the valve cover release filter. is it bad rings? or broken pistons?

Re:smoke coming valve cover
those would be your rings ... is there any oil presant?
|
Re:smoke coming valve cover
yea i check the oil and its good. i think im just going to build the motor now. low oil would make it smoke would it?

Re:smoke coming valve cover
Take your dipstick out while the car is running. If you see smoke commin out then your rings are fucked. Or, do a compression test. If any of the cylinders have low numbers, pour a bit of oil in there. Run the test again, and if compression numbers go up than that also means your rings are fucked.

Re:smoke coming valve cover
Most likely rings, BUT do you have your pvc system hookup up? You could be getting some made blow-by. I posted a pic of how a pvc supposed to look like on a turbo honda (pretty much like the dsm setup).
Check compression and answer my question, then we will know. -ryan |
Re:smoke coming valve cover
yeah that happend to my car....
culprit= broken ringlands.... all of them... |
Re:smoke coming valve cover
Thats what happens when you dont hook up a line from the valve cover breather prot to the turbo inlet(just suction,no boost)....blowby p0wN3z you!
I think thats why rings blow. You need to equalize internal engine pressure by sucking out the air out of the lower end. Albert have you removed that "super sequential" breather filter yet? |

::waves goodbye ring lands:: ;D

Re:smoke coming valve cover
My pcv system is stock.
You only need a catch can if your running more than 6psi or so IMO.Or it depends on where on the turbo intake pipe you tap it to.The further form the turbo inlet the less oil it will suck out of the valve cover. I need one now that I decided to run 10psi dailey :-\. |
Re:smoke coming valve cover
I'm kinda confused in how it is hooked up. So it goes from the pcv in IM then to catch can which then leads to the intake on turbo.
edit- or is it from the valve cover to catch can to turbo inlet. |

Re:smoke coming valve cover
it is from the PCV on the IM to the catch can and then from the catch can to the intake side of the turbo. The valve cover breather is normally to "SUCK" air in and not to push it out. (At least that is my understanding... QUADNIE?)

Re:smoke coming valve cover
I think it makes sense now cuase in the pic in Quadnie's link it looked like it came from the back of the block instead of the IM.

Re:smoke coming valve cover
Um.. that diagram pretty much labels it all out guys, same thing the dsm turbo cars have it hooked up (minus the catch can). I don't know how much more direct I can be about it ???

Re:smoke coming valve cover
would some thing like this work?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW
or is it more complicated? I have never really thought about the PCV until now. what should i do to help the rings out? |
