Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
I am needing a very small turbo, what is the smallest that can be semi-readily found used and what vehicle(s), and/or engine(s) does it come from? Maximum mass flow rates needed for the power goals will be around 17 to 18 lbm/min.

Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
1.8t VW's there tiny

Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
depends on how small. the TT 3000gt's have pretty small turbos

Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
It's going on a 500cc engine that will turn up to 11K rpm. The GT12 and GT15 garrets would be fine but I'd rather spend a bit less. 17 to 18 lbm/min is a very small mass flow rate. What type of turbos are the stock 3000gt units so I can find compressor map and check if they will fit this application.

Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
I had a VW Bug turbo that was pretty damn tiny, not really worth putting on the car.

Heres a good site with a few MHI and garrett compressor maps and other stuff that we should know but few care about. http://www.stealth316.com/2-3s-compflowmaps.htm#fm |
Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
it may be but on the compressor housing it just says TDO5
|
Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
Weight should be around 250 lbf, power goal is 125 max at the crank.
|
Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
i say go with the tdo4. thats what i meant to put, dammit. it will meet your goals. i even happen to have one that ill sell. i havent checked the shaft play, but it had no problems when it was on the car

Try a turbo from an audi 5000, those are really small.
this site sells a small turbo, although i was quoted around 1k for it last year. http://www.mjmturbos.com/AAAmjm2ndpage.htm http://www.mjmturbos.com/images/SMALLEST.jpg GL |
Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
Look for IHI RHB3's.

Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
The turbo(believe it's an IHI model) from an old Chevy Spectrum turbo is very small, I believe that would also be similiar to the stock turbo used on the Isuzu Impulse I-Mark turbo car...OH, and you must be an older guy to know about the movie Two Lane Black Top?? Good flick 4 sure :y

Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
You have to weld a t3 flange on but this is brobably as small as you get....

Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
Yep, the kp31.. That thing is no larger than my fist. I mean, you can barely stick your finger in the comp inlet!!! no wonders why this engine makes around 70 hp boosted!!!
another cute little turbo is the new gt 1241. here, i took a picture of them with a lighter to show how ridiculously small they are. (i swear, that lighter is used only for size comparisons!!! nothing else!! :6) http://www.blaastperformance.com/img...t1241-twin.jpg |
Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
That lighter has resin on it :6 :l

Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
I saw a smart car turbo on ebay, although it was (and I think they all are) integrated with the manifold, meaning you'd have to cut it off & weld on your own flange.

Re: Smallest turbo that is readily available used?
could a 125cc engine spool any of theses.
