Re: slipping in 5 gear

Slipping out? The Clutch (like the car just revs but goes no where when you gas it?) or your cruising and it pops out of 5th? If it's the second one. How many times did you crash a gear when your playing with boost? Sounds like some missing gear teeth and time for a new tranny.

Re: slipping in 5 gear

you could possiably just have to high vescosity oil in the transmission. i have seen this happen befor because of that.

sounds more like something that would matter in an auto

Re: slipping in 5 gear

BAD CLUTCH!! just remember...your stock clutch will NEVER hold up to boost/added HP

OR you chewed the teeth off of 5th gear

Re: slipping in 5 gear

i dont think a manual tranny can slip can it? if it can someone please explain y, i just dont see anyway of it happening. but ya your clutch is gone, 5th gear takes some power to turn so when your floor it its stressing the motor to gain speen, try putting it in 3rd gear going in a 2nd gear speed and floor it, im sure it will do the same thing. just get a 6 puck.

Re: slipping in 5 gear

I think they mean that the clutch is slipping.

clemsonteg 12-15-2005 11:37 AM

Re: slipping in 5 gear

if its popping out of fifth its probably low fluid in the tranny, that is usually the main cause because 5th gear is the smallest of the gears and if the fluid level is too low it cannot reach the fluid and that makes it pop out, so before you go changing trannies and clutches, put some tranny fluid in that bitch and see if that helps

ghettoturbo 12-15-2005 11:38 AM

he said its not popping out of gear

keep boosting in fifth gear and you'll have a bigger problem then a slipping clutch

Re: slipping in 5 gear

since NO ONE has correctly answered his problem..........

5th gear synchro, low oil level, or outercase main bearing is bad. Under load the gear will slip out into neutral.

What year B16 tranny? Cable/Hydro?????

99-00 Civic Si's had a TSB about this issue.

No ----. If it's popping out of gear then it's low on fluid, but you said it wasn;t and then you said it was. ???

I'm still going to say the clutch is on it's way out.

5th gear is where the clutch sees by far the most amount of torque.
So like 1435439 people already said, it's the clutch.

hrm, he didn't edit his post, I don't see a changing problem........

"slips out of 5th gear"

BTW, funny how I knew it was a 99-00 B16 hydro, typical symptoms.........

ALSO 5th gear gets the same oil that 3-4 get, same bearing diameter and height in the gearbox. The input shaft bearing is first to go..........

next.........

^^Ok, here he says it actually slips out of the gear.

^^Here he says it stays in gear and just revs until he actually takes it out of gear(not pops out of gear)and puts it in neutral and then puts it back into gear, meaning the tranny didn't pop out of gear.

Re: slipping in 5 gear

when it pops/slips out of gear, the shifter barely moves, you have to pull the shifter into nuetral, let it self-center in 3-4, then back to fifth..........

common problem on 99-00 Si boxes.........

here is the TSB on the grinding issue..........
