Which size T3 on a D16z6?

Like the title says. I'm looking at garret T3 turbos and was wondering which one would be better for around 7 to 10 pounds of boost on a D16Z6. .60 on the compressor side and .48 on the turbine side or .42 on the compressor side and .48 on turbine side. Like I said it will be run on a stock D16Z6 and for fmu will prolly have 440 ingectors bigger fuel pump and the AFC hack. Also I am prolly gonna get it externally wastegate, and a drag manifold will I have any clearence issues with the A.C or PS?

id say go with the 60/48, t3 they are nice good boost all the way to redline, and if u havent already cuase you have said the car is stock, i whould open up the exhaust with some bigger piping, it will spool the turbo faster

i wouldnt go with the 60 compressor unless you planned on going higher than 7-10 psi, i think it would be out of its efficiency imo

go 42/48.thats all you need.

So would this be a good turbo.

or

Also will I be able to keep my ac and ps with a drag manifold or should I get a differant one. Can someone reccomend me a good place to get a downpipe for it or should I just go to a muffler shop?

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

That one should work just fine, and for a good price too.

I don't believe you can use that manifold with A/C. Your best bet is a log manifold. :-\

A muffler shop is about the best option for a downpipe. You can't really buy a pre-fabricated downpipe that's just going to bolt up without any welding or modification.

I just bought that T3 60 trim .60/.48 off eBay not too long ago. I should have my turbo parts installed and dyno tuned by mid february so I will let ya know. It looks like they are upping the price... I got mine for $310 shipped. It's from MJM auto parts.

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

What was your reasons for goin with the .60/.48 over the .42/.48.

Also how is the quality on the log manifold? Would a greddy manifold with adaptor plate work?

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

Well I decided on the .60/.48 because it was remanufactured and $310. It will have better top end and make more power. It will have a little more lag, but I like to think of that as traction control. My car is a daily driver, but I am also planning on racing it on the street/strip. I figured if I end up building the motor this turbo would workout better too. I'm not sure how different the turbos would be, but maybe someday I will throw ona .42/.48 for shits and giggles to find out.

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

So given the same conditions the .60/.48 turbo will make more power than the .42/.48. I kinda like your idea of traction control too. The reason I wanting this one is cause I can get it brand new for 350 or I can get the .42/.48 for 300 remanufactured.

You could grab a 48/60 off an old thunderbird for around $80. That's what I did. (No bagging here, just another optioon) ;)

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

Im currently on the 48/60 bandwagon ass well :-*
nice size compressor for a cheap JY turbo, and with a .48 the spool is still good. the .63 is bit much on 1.6l anything, but spools really good on dustins LS. My B16 says 'thumbs up' too...

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

yeah i bought that same 42/48 T3 turbo from MJM turbo's off ebay. mine came with a 51 wheel trim and it was 310 shipped. its a very good turbo and pulls nice on my d16a6. since i think this guys throws bigger wheel trims they flow a little better. mine has lag but when it hits it feels good! ;D i dont think you'll be disappointed with the 42/48 plus now he's throwing in a 60 wheel trim!! that should be just about perfect...

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

the 42/48 is just fine on a civic. ive tried both that one and im now using a 60/48. its has a lot more power but also more lag than the 42/48. both will give u a nice top end. for daily use though id stick with the 42/48.

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

I think I will go with 42/48, but I still have a few more questions. What options should i get with it. to be more specific should I get the 5 bolt option and the 360 degree thrust bearing. I've heard you don't need the thrust bearing unless you are boosting close to 20 psi. Also what manifold will alow me to keep my AC and PS withoust having to shave my block. Thanks for the help guys.

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

why dont you learn how to read a compressor map, and decide for yourself.? How much boost, what rpm, air flow cfm?

The .60 is stock on the 2.3l, and will support 300-350hp. Probably more then you are goign to need. Stepping down to the .42 is going to lower the hp potential a little bit, BUT that mean less lag, more response, and probably spending a little more time in the peak efficiency range. Which makes less heat, so you get more power.

I know what the t-03 .60 map looks like, but I haven't pulled up a .42 map. Instead of asking, learn what you need to make a sound decision.

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

I got a super 60 for my y8, cause it plotted well on a compressor map at around 10 psi. And if I build the motor it is good for up to ~20 psi - still in the efficiency range if I remember right. It has been awhile, so I'm not sure about the exact figures I got, but I remember that it was the best of all of the ones I looked at.

Re:Which size T3 on a D16z6?

Pretty much any T3 will put your ass back in the seat.

Im running a .60/.63 on my sol right now and it's unbelievable @ 6psi.

I also drove in my frinds .42/.48 D16z6 and it feels exactly the same. It does spool quite a bit quicker though. He's also non-intercooled yet though too. So that will make a difference.

OVERALL, i'd go with the .60/.48 if you're looking for good spool and good top end.
