Good - Injector Hack, This involves, putting larger injector in your car and using a controller to pulse the injectors slower, by modifying the Map sensor input voltage to the ECU. These setups work great with DSM 450cc injectors. A rising rate regulator (FMU) with a larger inline pump is also another method, these can do pretty well depending on size disc you use in your FMU. When reaching higher levels of boost (I would say over 8psi) I recommend some type of ignition retarding device. The MSD BTM is perfect for this. It backs your timing down as you boost, its adjustable with a ****. Check valves or Missing link will also have to be installed to hide boost from the stock ECU, so it does not throw a check engine light.

i read that....do i have to do both....the afc hack and the fmu with inline pump..

or do i do one or the other?

i plan on putting a TE04h on my d16y7 and running about 6psi...i think i read internal wastegate is like 5.5psi..that would be fine with me..no more than that...but i want it to last at least a year...or more

im not gonna dog it but i do want a little more power out of my sohc...i dont have loads of cash but i can spend about 500 at the most...on doing this

The AFC hack and the FMU are like the taiwanese Rollex watches. A very poor subsitute at best. If you use an FMU, you need an inline pump, the FMU, and checkvalves/missing link. If you go with the hack, all you need is a VAFC/SAFC.
i'd suggest using some free management instead. Check out the info in the engine management forum about Uberdata or TE. MUCH better than the hack, and definately much safer

Trust me. Boost is more addictive then a crack-laced bowl of heroin. You will definately want to turn up the boost, and when you do yer gonna have get better management.

well i really dont have that much money to spend on managment...i guess you gotta pay to play as usual..

ive had a boosted car before...so i know i dont want anymore than 6psi on my y7.

i just need to know what to do to make it decently reliable if i boost it...

what is the uberdate or te?

Uberdata and TE (turboedit) are both FREE, which means they're cheaper than the FMU/PUMP, and AFC hack anyway. They're basically a free hondata. d16y7...OBD-I?

u have to have ur ecu chipped, then u burn the ---- on to a chip burner and then use the chips in ur ecu, so u have to buy a chip burner, and have ur ecu socketed too

No, you don't need a CD burner, at all. Welcome to the digital age. Obviously if this guy is posting on a web board he has access to a computer. Total cost of ECU chipping supplies, including an EEPROM, Socket, resistors, etc. cost me $20. My burner was had for $45. $65.00 Total. What's an AFC cost? 200? 300? uber/TE can also retard your timing, advance it or whatever, and is much more adjustable than an afc. Oh, did i forget to mention the AFC jacks the timing UP as soon as you hit boost? When you tune for boost you tend to want to retard the timing to prevent knock. If you wanna retard your timing with the hack, you gotta get an MSD BTM, there's another $250 for ya. Yeah, Uberdata/TE require some supplies, but 65.00 compared to a 250.00 AFC and a 250 MSD that's nothing.

EDIT: oh yeah, and if you can't chip your ECU send it to me, along with a $10 donation to HMT and i'll do it for ya.

I have a 96 CX with a Y7 (Y8 intake.) I have spent for management:
$60 shipped for 450 injectors
$78 shipped for OBDII-OBDI conversion harness
$40 shipped for a P06 OBDI ECU
$21 shipped for the chipping stuff from Moates.net
(Yes, its cheaper to find it all locally but I'm lazy)
$91 shipped Moates USB Eprom burner. (Willem is only $40 on Ebay)
Total=$290
UBERDATA=FREE!!
Also keep in mind this set up retards timing per pound of boost and is infinately adjustable and tunable.

I am planning to install it all very shortly. Waiting on Moates items.
