Re: silicone hose as oil return?
I would at least use braided rubber high pressure hoses.

Re: silicone hose as oil return?
So would I. I just ran across a guy that had a small kink when his engine rocked using 3/4" silicon hose. It burst.
On a different Toyota v6, there is a rubber crossover for coolant on the block. I knew a guy that used high-temp silicon for that. It burst too. Leave silicon hose for something like a vacuum line. if there's going to be any chance of it holding pressure... Forget it. |
Re: silicone hose as oil return?
I used high press fuel line and it works great

Re: silicone hose as oil return?
oil return doesn't have any pressure, it's gravity fed. i have used the same piece of silicone/neoprene/rubber high temp hydrualic hose for 3 years. it is also high pressure, but you don't need high pressure...just something to handle the extreme temp and corrosiveness of near boiling oil.
i would stay away from flimsy straight silicone type hose. i don't think it can handle that much temperature. |
Re: silicone hose as oil return?
wel i looked at it closer, i should post pics! its heater hose, but its blue instead of the plain black..
also has the thread or w/e in it just like fuel line hose does |
Re: silicone hose as oil return?
i have a 1in o/d and 5/8 in i/d hi temp silicone hose thats blue on the outside and orange on the inside (if thats what you're talking about) for the oil return....i dont forsee a problem with as there isnt really any pressure as its gravity fed like scttydb411 said, but im a noob.....

Re: silicone hose as oil return?
I prefer high pressure hoses only because they seems to hold up better on the long run.

Re: silicone hose as oil return?
i use 3/4" id black goodyear high pressure rubber efi hose, works really well, as for bursting, just leave a bit of extra length when ye connect it up :y
