Default Semi-newb questions. (Yes, I searched)

Ok,some of these may seem pretty elementary but....

1. I always hear everybody ask about shaft play. Is there an acceptable amount of shaft play? Should it move at all? Does it mean the shaft moving horizontally or just wiggling around in the housing or what?

2. I know a missinglink is to "hide" boost from the map sensor, but if I plan on using a chipped/tuned ecu, do I still need a missing link or a 3 bar MAP sensor?

3. What the hell is "crushed" DSM BOV? I know the DSM and BOV part, but what is the crushed ---- all about? I have a 1G DSM BOV, how do I know if it's crushed or not and what's the difference?

4. Is this bullshithttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-9...5912QQtcZphoto worth it if I already have a 1G side mount?

Umm, I think that's it for now. Many thanks.

shaft play on a journal bearing should be minimal but will always be a little on a used turbo, most say .010" play.

missing link is only used w/ FMU or AFC. not chipped ecu, the map sensor needs to read boost if there are boost table in the chipped ecu.

crushing a DSM bov is just the act of crushing the top down to require more pressure to open it, basically makes it hold more pressure before leaking, and changes the sound a little.

that I/C is bullshit, theres no specs on it, and it most likely wont fit right.

1. You can't really judge a turbo by shaft play, but it should not wiggle around, I would guess a little is ok but not much at all.

2. No. Because the ecu is programed to read boost. So the engine won't be like holy ---- where's all this air coming from.

3. The 1st gens have a metal tube that the BOV connects to and they don't want either ends crushed apperantly it's easy to crush. I have one should look at it some day to see if they do easily crush.(My guess was wrong, heh but that is what I thought.)

4. Not sure, only way is to find out, the 1g side mount will be good enough though. I bet those pipes are cheap along with the slicon connectors.

even a brand new turbo have shaft play. side to side, but after you drive the car the play will go away.
my brand new sc61 had a little side to side play and so does my boys. and also my t3/t4 before the sc61 all had shaft play and they were brand new.

really, i figured the ecu would throw a code once it seen boost unless its looking for it. i havent ever used an AFC, so i dont know personally, just seems like it to me.

makes sense, but what if you are using stock injectors w/ 0 negative correction, then you would need missing link or check valves.
