Safe boosting?

I am getting close to being able to install me turbo setup now and i have a couple questions. First is how much boost can i safely run on my B16A2 with stock internals? it will be a daily driver and i want it to last. well last untill i get all the new internals bought so i can rebiuld it and make it stronger. My second question is should i get an oil restictor right away before i do my install or should i wait and see how it is once i install my setup? If i do get a restrictor right away how do i know where to set the valve on it? i am looking at the one on the stealthmode site. any help would be great and thanx in advance guys.

Re: Safe boosting?

its not a how much boost really, 10psi from a t-25 is not the same as 10psi from a gt-35r OK? So what turbo are you going to run? some people can blow up ---- on 8psi while others can rock 15 ;)

Beating my D15b7 on 12 psi daily :6 Too bad its still slow with such a small turbo :P

I would run it without a restrictor 1st, lots of cases you dont even need one, if you do just tap out the -an fitting and locktite a set screw in there, drill a small hole in the set screw and you have a restrictor that cost you 14 cents instead of $14.

8-10 is always a safe number

stock block b16's have held 500+, i dont think you need to worry about low psi #s as long as you have a good tune...

get a nice t3/t4 hybrid and rock that ---- as high as you can on stock map sensor, get a good tune and you wont have to worry.

Keyword in that sentance was TUNE not basemap, I think you'll be pretty happy for a few months on 10psi with that size blower....after about 6 months you will want to turn up the boost

Re: Safe boosting?

Well my only worry is that there is no one near me than tunes. so i dont know what to do about that. i dont know enough about tuning to do it myself. i mean i have a base map made already but i still dont have even close to enough experience to actually tune it right. i mean i looked in the crome tuner directory and i didt see anyone listed in Wisconsin at all. i guess i will cross that bridge when i come to it.

None. Don't put on a turbo if you want reliability.

For about twelve seconds.

a little longer than that, maybe 30 or so :P

point is, he is running a t3. the b16 in stock form can handle way more power than that turbo could EVER make...

Nope. They start blowing real hot before they run out of air. You can blow a B16 at 2/3rds a .60 T3's output if you're not careful - I make a point of setting up Advanced tables in Crome to pull timing and add fuel if IATs get high.

I've been working with Wes on getting him up to speed as a Tuenarboi. He's an average intelligent guy and has really latched on to everything that is going on because he has a good grasp of mechanics, but there is a LOT of small finesse things going on here.

I started with UD, as easy as it gets, and worked my way through UD's quirks (set TPS to get rid of bucking, etc). Then I started with Crome once they started adding all the features, and got used to what was there as the huge lot of features Crome now has slowly developed. It's easy to learn as you go, especially when it's drawn out over time.

You might just want to shoot for small power (start at 6, and make the jump to 10 pretty quick you aren't doing anything extreme with this current build) and DIY with UD, then once you have the basics start with Crome and learn how to use it one feature or add-on at a time. It takes more time to digest it all between learning sessions, and it'll be a couple months before you have a whole lot of confidence. Just don't get disheartened, and keep working at it.

ya tunning is alot harder when theres tons of options lol. and then something always goes wrong. how to make everything run right takes some skills. i couldnt of got my car finished without my friend and david helping me out and tuning my car. but im hoping that eventually i will be able to do everything myself which of course i will because i have the determination and the will to learn it. but it just isnt going to happen all at once. sence i turned 16 and now being 21 i have learned alot about cars. and just when you think you learned almost everything theres more.
