SAFC hack timming
 

i guess this has been done but its hard to completly understand timming... i am installing my turbo now in my D16Y4 and am upto the ECU, i dont want to chip as its too much hassle on our models for a tite budget.

I have found on here you guys suggest the afc hack to not be 5-6 psi due to that being the worst period for pinging.. so for that reason i will be setting up the turbo on 8 psi (although i really would just prefer less boost e.g 6 pounds)

I see you've also mensioned for timming to alter it at the dizzy for 0.5*-1* per pound, but ive been told thats pretty risky.

Others on here have mensioned other alternatives such as timming control tools... (mtd etc)

i wanted to know from someone who has safc what they thing is the best solution for their obd2 civic with safc in regards to managing timming...

also should i bother to get a wideband o2 sensor? will it help with something like say the blue wire mod?

spend the money and convert to obd-1....thats my goal in the next few weeks....will be alot safer to drive when tuned properly

yeah i get ya, its just a hassle with these Y4 engines, need to get a new:

ecu + rom + basemap + rom burner + ostritch (however its spelt)
distributor + its wiring to spark plugs
harness
+ find a tuner who can do it in this country.

ive read so many comments about the afc hack blowing HG etc, why would that happen if 1) timming is right 2) fuel is set correctly 3)temperature is monitored correctly?

is there something im not aware off?

Ive got th SAF hack on my 1991 Toyota 3E, yeah, I ocassionally get some pinging at like 5 psi. I didnt realize I could boost that ---- right outa there just by cranking it up, damn. Il just crank it up and life will once again be good.

AFc hacks are good for very low boost....imo....i have a few friends that run these hacks with ls/vtec turbo setups an only run low 12's in a 88 4dr civic. Now with whats done to the motor an with a good ECU tune those fukkers would break 11's easy......Not to mention i've seen there motors pulled apart every 2 months because something blew or got fucked up......spend the money on tunning......so much safer

thanx for feedback but i wont be running any higher then 8 pounds that should be safe right?

ur mates are probably running higher boost then that...

i really need pointers on running it safe not fast... and ur right i will save up but over a year or so in that time i want to have the turbo running as safe as safc can run it... (no track racing)
