S-10 2.2l custom turbo setup

Just wanted to share some pics of my S-10 setup I just completed. I'm using a Garrett T25 from a 1988 Sunbird. Still haven't got it tweaked in yet, and I may give the carb spring trick a go. I suspect the boost may be a bit lower than it should be, because the exhaust turbine was not in real good shape. But, it does boost up to about 5 psi with the stock wastegate actuator, and since these 2.2 engines are not real strong, I'm not planning on too much boost until I get another engine rebuilt with stronger internals.

I like it, looks very nice and clean. Is that radiator hose though? If so how is it holding up....

Nice job though, did you weld up the manifold and downpiper yourself?

Thanks guys. I made the manifold and downpipe, but I didn't do any of the welding, a guy I work with did that.

Yes, it's radiator hose. It's only been on there a couple of days, so the jury is still out on how it will hold up. I suspect that it will be ok for low-boost applications, but I will probably replace it with steel tubing at some point, after I get another engine rebuilt for it.

I was hoping to keep a somewhat OEM appearance to it. And the only reason the engine compartment appears to be so clean is because it's been powerwahsed like 4 times in the last month. After a couple of nasty incidents where my oil feed line blew off (before I had steel braided line), and sprayed oil all over the place under the hood. Yes, it happened TWICE! ::) Should be ok now though.

that looks pretty solid. nice work. were the power gains fairly good?

Well, the wastegate actuator seems to be limiting it to about 4 psi, so I've really gotta do something with that because I want around 6. But even at 4, it's a pretty good improvement over stock.

Yup, A/C is gone. And I only had my SES light on for a few minutes, but that had more to do with washing the engine than it did the turbo. It has been behaving itself very nicely so far...
