RX-7 turbo (but please look even if you don't know jack about mazda)
I'm going to look at a 93 rx-7 twin turbo that has a blown motor on saturday...is there anything I can look for to see if the trubos are in good shape without running the car...and if I have to take them off, i've never been in a 7's engine bay, is it hard to remove the turbos? any help is great...thanks.
PS. they've had a turbo timer on them so that oughta help, im hopin. |

take off the intakes and wiggle the shafts to check for too much play

yeah, your gonna have to take the turbo off to see if they are in good condition. Check for oil on the empellors, shaft play, and cracks around the exhaust housing. To check for play, grab both ends of the empellors and try to wiggle them back and forth as well as up and down.

rotaries break down and go back together in a few hours, super easy to work on.... follow what everyone says about turbo check. Shine a flashlight in exhaust housing, light coming through = crack. Mileage?

Huh? I don't think the apex seals should allow a coolant leak unless they've gotten crammed sideways and went through the hypotrochoid housing thing.

what are you going to use the turbos for?
getting them to work on a honda would be .. well.. "interesting" to say the least. |
