RPI Racing Project CRX...

Soooooooo close, yet ever so far away... Some of you know about this car, others don't (been a while since i've posted here), but for those that don't, this has been an ongoing project that started about 3 years ago, then took about a 2.5 year break... we just started working on this a few months ago, and this was this cars very first road trip... it had just been finished being built the morning before this event.

Anyway, we worked through the night on Wednesday night to get this car ready for a dyno session on Thursday, so that we could get the car racing for the weekend. Well, we drove up to see the tuner for the car, and unfortunately, the timing wasn't quite right, and we weren't able to get the dyno session in... However, we did get it ready for its debut appearance. We went down to Moroso Motorsports Park in Palm Beach, Florida for the 'Sport Compact Hurricane Nationals'. Originally, we were supposed to be racing the car at this event. But, due to the previously mentioned dyno issue, we weren't able to do that. So, i instead decided that it would be a good idea to at least take the car, and represent our shop at a Florida race. :D

I met up with one of my good friends Mario, at his house early in the morning, to load up some stuff, and meet up with him and a few of his friends... if we're going down there, may as well have a 'crew'... LoL... Here are the pics from his house... also, the first pics of the car on the 'net with it completely together *drum roll*........................

On the way up, we happened to come across this sign in Palm Beach....

At least they give their food high priority... LoL..

We got to the show, and had a great time... there was a strip club down there that we will DEFINATELY be hitting up again every time we go there... LoL. Also, we have the best little hole-in-the-wall italian restaurant in the world... family owned and operated, and it has the BEST Italian food i've had in a looooong time ;) Anyway, here are some pics of the car from the show....

And finally, got her back home.... this shot actually shows pretty good the color transition from 'in the light' to 'in the shade', and how ot goes from a bit of a copper color, to a nice red color...

Enjoy!

Re:RPI Racing Project CRX...

who is going to tune that for you??? i wonder what you will hit on the 1/4..

remember man, we are going race when my car (and yours) are totally done and tuned....

is that a built b16 or the same old one, and if its the same old one when do you plan on building it up???

Re:RPI Racing Project CRX...

BLACKSI: "top secret stuff huh" .... ---- yea mang! ;)

PoorMansPorsche: LoL... probably. But we'll get em next time. I actually wans't too happy about the prospect of racing it that weekend anyway, because its not quiiiiiite race ready... dyno ready, yes, but going down the track is very different than dynoing... heh.

ghettoturbo: Not really... i'm not a dealer for PWR yet. I may be able to get you a deal through the place i bought it, but not directly through my shop. I am working on getting set up though.

AbaZ: Fresh as a baby's be-hind... Actually, it was kinda funny... at the show there, it was painfully obvious that the paint was fresh, because you could still smell it from like 3 feet away... LoL. And the Ford is actually in line for a turbo kit as well ;)

BoostedED9: Oh, we'll definately race... hehe. Got any recent pics of what you're doing to yours? By the way, aren't you guys moving your shop? Anyway, i'm brining in a guy from out of town to tune the car, and we're going to be borrowing Titans dyno (we're tuning another car as well, and he's good friends with Titan, so we're getting a nice deal on it)... That is, unless you guys can make a better deal for the use of your dyno.... my tuner even has his own wideband... what can you work out? 8)

BoostedED9 08-19-2003 07:31 PM

Re:RPI Racing Project CRX...

no new pics of the car, its basically a ripped appart crx right now as it sits... waiting on a new front end for it (jdm) and some more goodies for it before any pics get taken..hehe...

about the dyno, you would have to talk price with angel, but if titan is hooking you up go with them... does the tuner have a name or is going to be a secret?? :)

btw, what is the backspace of the welds you have, and do you know of anyone looking for turbo internals for a b18???

"i wanna se some pics of this top secret ---- your creating for the comp. inlet"

So do i... LoL. As of right now, it is still in the 'digital stages' at the machine shop. I still have to talk myself into spending as much money as it will cost to manufacture them before i'll get one of my own.

BoostedED9: So the dyno is usable there? I was under the impression that you guys were moving the dyno or something? I'm running 5" backspacing on my welds... they do require a 1/8" shim though... or you can grind your uprights. I'll keep an ear out though for anyone wanting the motor parts ;)

Why not just use a k&n filter, they only loose 1-2hp on the top end.

ed9: what kind of deal you got on b18 internals?

chekin up on the top secret project for the turbo inlet

Beau
------------------------------------

Well, it came back, and the machine shop quoted a number that just about choked me... If i did 10 of them, it would cost me over $320 per unit, and i'm not about to pay that just for a turbo inlet, so it doesn't look like it'll be happening :( . But its ok though, i mainly wanted that for the street, but now i'm content with a filter hanging out of the bumper for street driving.. hehe.

We did a street-tuning pull with it in 4th gear the other day, and the motor torqued so much in the engine bay, that it pulled the back of the shift rods out of the little rubber hanger, and let the shifter fall down and drag on the ground :o ... insane. And thats with the HASport mounts on it at 16psi, in 4th gear without nitrous. Can't wait to see what this thing dyno's at... hehe.
