RHB5 VJ11. How much power?

Hi guys. I know a lot of you aren't fans of the rhb5, so please dont yell at me to get a bigger turbo.
I have a d16y8, bone stock. But my setup should look something like this:
-d16y8
-ihi rhb5 vj11
-std manifold
-dsm 450cc injectors
-custom 2.5" downpipe
-Megan Racing FMIC
-Walbro 255lph fuel pump
-p28 ecu with chrome/uberdata

I hope I didnt miss anything. Anyways, the reason I'm posting this is to ask wether anyone runs a similair setup, and what kind of results I can expect. I am seriously hoping to be around the 180-190whp mark.

Thanks.

bump.

Re: RHB5 VJ11. How much power?

you should have no problem hitting that mark, a rhb5 vj11 has very similar specs to a T25, so ya.. its a very small turbo but I'm sure a nice hot and heavy 12psi will get you to your goal ;)

10 psi:

18 psi with a spike to 20-22 psi with ping, as you can see it was downhil form there as the gas was let off:

You'll make your goals no problem. My little toyota 1.6L was making 170HP at 7.5 psi with a VJ11, so you'll have no problem reaching your goals. That was just with a homemade log mani and rinky dink 1-3/4" IC pipes. My dyno graph looks awesome, peak power only drops off a few HP from 6500 to 7500 rpm and the torque curve looks nice and flat :)

Great! Seems like this turbo will be perfect for me. Those numbers you were all getting is what I was expecting.
And thank you sixsick6 for the dyno graphs, they were very helpful :) Nothing like a good visual. And those torque numbers are really impressive, I hope mine turn out like that.
Once again, thank you.

be sure to upgrade the mounts, because your gonna see wheelspin/wheel hop madness with torque that fast.

On the contrary. Notice the A/F ratio at peak TQ and HP. Ping was heard and the accelerator was let off on purpose. 18 psi wouldn't have been a problem, the fact that I spiked to 20-22 psi was.

Re: RHB5 VJ11. How much power?

What do you mean you let off the throttle? at peak hp/tq your AF is definatly not the greatest, basically looks like a big spike and you just stayed in it. Because if you would have let off the throttle where you say you did your AF's would have flew up not went down.

Re: RHB5 VJ11. How much power?

Which is exacty what happened. Ping was audible so the throttle was let off slightly then back at it. I was using a shitty bleeder style boost controller that I threw on in 5 minutes. I had only planned on running 10-12 psi and did so for my first 4 runs to get a baseline as my engine was newly built. It wasn't until the 3rd set of runs that I decided to up the boost from the stock solenoid. I slapped on the bleeder and went for a couple test runs in the front of the shop. When I was happy with a 16-18 psi hold, I went back to the shop. I overzelously gave it another turn and figured I'd get an 18 psi hold. I was wrong and it spiked to 20~22 psi.

Re: RHB5 VJ11. How much power?

Its not like internal gates are even reliable for anything over 15psi anyways, that looks like a typical dsm spike. Even on your previous dyno it shows how fast torque drops off, definatly not something that fun to drive... super fast spool, and dead on the top end. What fun is driving a honda that you cant bang out to atleast 7 grand?

Re: RHB5 VJ11. How much power?

My stock wastegate shouldn't see anything over 14 psi anyways and that is directly from the workshop manual. I have a ton of other wastegates that I'll be experimenting with but will most likely settle on the Bullseye wastegate on an IHI RHF55 VF39 (04~05 STI) and 18~20 psi with more tuning and a Profec B. Like I said, that was for baseline runs only and i didn't expect much. It's the stock turbo on the stock motor. 2.2 MX6 Turbo

Re: RHB5 VJ11. How much power?

ahhhhh, makes more sense now, lol... I thought this was a honda for some reason?.. Ya with a factory EBS you are going to see a much higher wastegate setting. When we put these turbos on hondas, the actual stock wastegate is set exactly 8psi. You kept saying 15+ psi, and I kept thinking to myself... my god, what stock d16 is gonna take that, haha. Anyhow I ran a pair of RHb5's on my twin turbo ls/vtec https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...?topic=19375.0 Definatly a good turbo if you double them up ;)

Re: RHB5 VJ11. How much power?

Those aren't VJ11's though. Those are VF series out of the early Subaru's. The VF series have that flat inlet and you have to make a flange or use the stock flange. The VJ11 have the inlet as part of the assembly. They're still RHB5 but slightly smaller than the VJ11.

Re: RHB5 VJ11. How much power?

pretty much the same thing, because I actually swapped the center section from the Probe/mx6 into the subaru housings and it fits perfect, they look identicle. The only differences are the housings I beleve.
