RHB5 Question.

Does anyone know what the stock psi is on a rhb5 like if I just bolted it onto the car. I want to run 5-6 psi on my civic.

7-8psi stock actuated

Re:RHB5 Question.

they are really prone to spiking too, I found that before I had my timing dialed in I was getting frequent spikes to 10psi, once I stopped pulling too much timing I was able to get it to float between 7 and 7.5 psi max. boost.

These things have a pretty small turbine and they can be pretty sensitive to timing, the more retarded the timing the more heat energy coming out the exhaust which generally equates to more boost.

How would I make it so it runs 5psi?

Re:RHB5 Question.

hook up a manual boost controller or perhaps thread the wastegate arm?

Re:RHB5 Question.

a manual boost controller will only Raise boost from the stock actuated level. You could thread the wastegate arm to extend it open, but this will create some serious lag by doing so. Your better off getting a Chrysler Turbo (Kcar anything with the 2.2l) all their wastegates are set at 5.5psi and fabricate it to fit on your turbo. Otherwise just get some better fuel management and suck it up, because 8psi aint ----, you'll want more later on trust me ;)

Re:RHB5 Question.

I lowered the boost to about 4-5 psi by putting shims (washers)where the wastegate actuator bolts on to the comp housing. I have not put the shims yet on the pic below;

good idea on the shimming idea,

shimmity sharoooo

nice idea on shimming that ----.

I think five psi really isn't worth a turbo, with very little N/A mods you can get it to be just as fast.

you could always add a nice external wastegate and lower the boost that way... oh yeah and just close off the internal wastegate.

OK I think that I am going to just keave it alon up the fuel systemand run the 7-8. I am going to mount this in the car this weekend. Wich way does it go? Does the actual turbo face the passanger side or the driver side?

It can go either way, it doesnt matter. If you are going to keep AC you would want the compressor housing facing the passenger side, and if you dont have ac put it the other way. Its just easier to route charge pipes when the compressor housing is faced towards the driverside.

look on the main page to get some ideas of mounting for people who have a similar civic as you.
