removing 14b stud
 

For those of you that are using the 14b/hf manifold setup.. how did you get rid of the stud on the exhaust side of the 14b?

I remember a post a long time ago on this but tried searching and found nothing.

if its stickint out heat the metal housing and use a pipe wrench on it. i suggest heating it cause u can bust it off inside.

ha I used to use this name playing games like Tribes and counterstrike.. so I guess it just stuck.

About heating it.. how exactly do I do that? And how does making it hot help loosen up the stud?

Hit it with a torch and crank on it. The heat expands and contracts the metal which really helps to loosen it up.

I hate that ------- stud.. let it soak in some penatration oil.. then get some big ass vise grips and go to the lowest point of the stud and try to get it off, or you can double nut the fucker (if the threads are still ok).. then if that doesnt work, heat up the cast housing (around the stud) not the stud.. and it should come out.. if that doesnt work, cut the fucker off, and drill/tap.

easiest way is just to put two nuts on the stud and lock them against each other, put a bigass pair of vice grips on the bottom nut and turn the stud out that way....i've done a few 14b's like that...

Thanks abaz, thats exactly what I needed to know about where to heat it,etc...

I went to Napa earlier and got two nuts... I've got em locked on the stud now but no way to keep the turbo from not moving when I try to crank at it. How do you do it?

WTF was the point of this stud anyway? Why couldnt Mitsu just leave the bitch off >:(

you didnt have to go to napa to get them. you could've gotten them for like 3 cents each at a hardware store hehe. to get it off, i usually set the turbo down on a wooden workbench with the stud sticking out off the side of the table, hold the turbo with one hand and turn the vice grips clamping the stud down with the other. it takes a little muscle power because they're usually locked in there good, but if you get a friend to hold the turbo it might be easier if you arent really a strong dude. mitsu put the stud there for an excellent reason - it's a guide onto the manifold. have you ever tried to put a turbo on a manifold while it's on the car while lining it up right and making sure the gasket stays just right? yeah....it's a bitch...lol
