Hi everyone, I have some engineering questions.

my stang is running hiflow metallic substrate catalytic converters with "H-pipe" on 2.5'' exhaust pipes all the way back to the flow master mufflers.
I already removed the mufflers and have fabricate the mounts for the twin turbos.
my turbos are brand new /small/ 48 AR compressor side and 60 turbine exhaust side

Im looking for guidance in a few areas.

1. should i cut out the "H-pipe" and let each turbo have its own separate exhaust feed?

2. my turbo compressor output is fitted for 2.5'' piping, I thought about stepping it down to 2'' or smaller with an adapter to help with compression delay.

I am an engineer, but certainly no expert in the flow of compressible fluids.

I am unfamiliar with the exhaust systems on mustangs, so bear with me. The crossover is there to equalize the pressure in the two tail pipes. If the pipes are identical behind the crossover, then equalizing pressure is equivalent to equalizing flow in the pipes.

On a twin turbo setup you ideally want equal output from each turbo. Equal flow into the inlets is desired, so running an H-Pipe will probably be beneficial. I doubt it will make a significance difference if you did not run one though.

What turbos are you running? I imagine you meant a 48 a/r turbine and 60 a/r compressor and not vice versa. What compressor wheel and turbine wheel?

i would ditch the h pipe and run an x pipe for better off boost exhaust flow and run 2.5" piping, no less.

I disagree that an x-pipe will outflow and H-pipe using the same size tubing. The H-pipe is like two straight pipes with very little flow through the crossover. The x-pipe makes all the exhaust pass through more bends. All of the exhaust through subtle bends (x) or a very small amount through a harsh H. I doubt there is a 5hp difference, but this is my thought. I could only find one back to back dyno test and the H made more power than the X (only looked for 5min): http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...est/index.html

I was thinking more about this last night. A crossover will make the exhaust pulses going to the turbos more like that of a flat plane crank v8. That is equally spaced exhaust pulses, which is desirable.

If you plan on making more than 300whp per bank I would run 2.5" compressor discharge piping. The extra friction of the 2" piping would probably be significant because the pipes will be so long compared to front mount turbo setups.

sorry its 60 a/r turbine and 48 a/r compressor. DO you think there will be a problem with this?

When I put in my x-pipe a long time ago i lost 20lb of low end torque and gained HP up high, that was no fun, so i took it out and put the H pipe back in with the hi-flow metallic substrate cats still. my goal now is what ever will get the turbo spooling faster. I will play around with different configurations and let you guys know my findings
