rebuilding an RHB5 question-NOW WITH PICS

has anyone ever rebuilt an RHB5 turbo? right now im in the process of taking mine apart to see why im finding oil in the IC piping and why its squirting out the cold side fan.......can anyone guide me as what to do? ive already gotten the waste gate off...the ....---- i don tknow what its called but the housing that the IC pipe bolts onto.....got that off, and now im in the process of taking the fins off.....how do i go about this? because the intake side will NOT come apart from the exhaust side, gotten all the bolts off, but just will NOT come apart :'( some one help me!!!

alright how do i take the fins off so i can get to the seals....ive tried sticking a 12 point 12mm socket on the exhaust side, and then taking an 8mm socket and putting it on the intake side, but nothing seems to loosen up?!?! does anyone know a site that explains it??? or know how the ---- to do it?!

I believe the 8mm nut is reverse thread. So go the opposite as if you were tightening it. It should break free. Hope this helps. Oh, and good luck. It doesn't get any easier from there on. ;)

the bearings in the IHI's are top notch, even tho they are small they hold up really good. Most of the time they last really good but occaisionally need a seal replaced. I wouldn't get another one from a wrecker, these turbo's are getting pretty ancient so you might just keep getting one lemon after another. Put the seals in it and look after it with regular oil changes and it should last along time.

I say mark the position of the turbines so you don't lose the balance, open it up and install new seals. Once you've got that 8mm reverse thread bolt off you just pop out the turbine and shaft, sometimes it will stick because the turbine seal is a little bigger than the opening. Once it's it apart, then use some c clip pliers to release the shaft, it's all pretty straight forward from their.

Make sure you clean out the groove that the seal fits in really good, before installing the new seal. Also make sure the opening on the seal is oriented towards the oil inlet.

good luck
