Default Questions about my used/abused 14b

hey all you hmt people out there,
ive been a fan of the website and have started putting together my kit for a 94 hatch si. anyway i got a used 14b with a chipped fin, and it looks like it might have been 'clipped'. anyway, i dont' know what an untouched turbine wheel looks like, so does anyone out there know if there is some more to the turbine wheel that has been cut off, cause it kind of looks like it has been cut on every fin. also, there is one fin that has a good chip out of it. i was just thinking of taking the opposite fin and grinding it down to where the profile matches the one that is messed up so it sort of balances it out a little bit better than it is now. any help or input would be great on the clipping issue, as well as the grinding/balancing idea.

heres the turbine wheel with out the turbine housing

ouch man, either throw that thing away and find another jy turbo, or send it to get rebuilt. i think the first option would be cheaper, and not really sure if that turbo is worth getting rebuilt anyways

well, its kinda sad because it has hardley any shaft play, the wasegate works good and the compressor side all look fine. its just the turbine wheel that looked bad, and i guess its a lot worse than i was thinin it was

any one else think this turbo has a chance?

Only one way to find out! Throw it on there and see.

If there is no blade to housing contact, then it will probably be fine.

nope, everything clears just fine with the housing on and it will be a while before i can just throw it on. i have everything except a welder and chargepipes.

i bet this sucker works, but i still think it was clipped. so i bet boost won't really hit till up higher in the power band

I dont know man; that kind of looks like the turbine fins were grinding on the housing. All of the clip-jobs I have seen seemed to be alot cleaner looking than that,

You *could* buy a rebuild kit and a new turbine shaft and build it yourself...but then it wouldnt be balanced.

My suggestion would be, as stated above, find another junk-yard 14b, and save that one for parts or something. (You could practice porting on the exahust housing and compressor. )

i might just junk this one, it came with a ---- ton of extras, the J pipe, more fittings than i can shake a stick at, a machined oil inlet flange, outlet stuff, the cast iron DP, and the right size botls for the exhaust housing. not too bad for 100 bucks, even if the turbine wheel is junk.

does anyone out there have a picture of a non molested turbine wheel, just so i can get a comparison?

and i have not air comp, or dremel for porting and polishing....
if only money would grow on trees
