question on muscle car turbocharging

Ok, so here's the deal. My friend has a 70 GTO with a 455HO and he wants to turbo it, but budgets are tight. I want to see what the HMT community thinks of a cheap but effective way to turbo this bitch. It also has ~10.5:1 compression to start off with. What would be the best/cheapest way to turbo and tune this?

Don't get involved in being an internediate for your friend in forums. especially while such project, I think, will require enough internet research and forum talk to justify having his own computer and a HMT account.

i would say big holset, a holley boost carb, thick headgasket, and 8 psi of boost. should be one hell of a ride.

personally i would find a intake manny for fuel injection and run mega squirt.

well basically we are both poor ass college students and he loves carbs too much he wont touch EFI with a 10-foot pole. I might have to do that, but how do you tune carb?Do you just use FMU's or do the boost carbs take care of that?

tight budget = don't ---- with the car.

less than 33,000 hardtop GTO's were made that year, I couldn't find the breakdown as to how many got 455's.

amen, no reason to ruin that car with a hackjob setup.

Re: question on muscle car turbocharging

If it has the original motor and trans I don't care what anyone says take that ---- out of there before turboing it. Find a cheaper alternative, something made recently like a crate motor from Summit or Jegs. If something goes wrong at least that way you can put the original stuff back in and have a vehicle worth as much as before you started. If you ---- up a stock drivetrain part it would be a shame. For instance... a 63 Vette split window is worth a ---- load with all original parts. Take out the engine and trans and it's suddenly worth $30k less. I urge you to replace that motor, keep it somewhere safe, and go from there.

I am pretty sure it is not original. He is slowly modding it putting in positrack and all that stuff. He has a different trans I do beleive as well, at least the gears aren't stock.
