Default Question about manifolds and A/C

Hey guys,

Im thinking of turboing my d16z6 over the course of the summer. I've done a lot of reading about various setups and individual parts. But I have not come about a definite answer as to which manifolds will clear a/c in a 95 ex coupe. The setup Im looking at right now is an HF manifold with a 14b turbo. Will that clear a/c? If it doesn't can someone reccommend an alternative to it? I wanna make a setup to run low boost on stock internals, say 7psi. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I've only seen 1 HMT setup w/ the HF manifold that got to keep AC, and that was with a IHI RHb5 (square flange) and the adapter plate was sitting off to the right aways so the DP could clear. I really dont think a 14b will fit in there with the AC compressor, even if you made a custom o2 housing, its going to be such a tight squeeze. Your better off just getting a custom Log manifold made, then you can place that turbo anywhere you want. Log manifolds are really easy to make. Get a head flange & turbo flange from BMC racing (in our classifieds) then go to mcmaster.com to get 4 pipes.

2 of these
4.33 a piece
part #45735K215

2 of these
$11.12 a piece
part #45735K255

Then get a little chunk of pipe to go to your turbo flange, and you can make something like this

As far as setting the boost to 7psi, well you may have to lengthen the wastegate actuator rod. (shitty) because it slows spool time down alot. The stock wastegate is set at 8psi.

Good luck, and welcome to HMT

That one psi isn't the difference between life and death. Just avoid the headache, don't sweat it and leave it at 8psi

Ok so im looking at the Type 304L Stainless Steel right? My dad's a machinist so I can get a header flange and turbo flange made up. I want the flanges to made of the same material correct? So basically what I need here is to get the parts you mentioned weld it all together, cut a hole the same size in the bottom of one of the runners and then weld another pipe there and a turbo flange onto the end of that. Does it matter where along the runners I place the turbo flange pipe? I guess that would be dependant on where I want the turbo to sit to make it clear the a/c right? Thanks again.

Yes, its 304 Stainless Steel

It doesnt have to be the same material, Stainless can weld to mild steel no problem. Its kinda of a bitch to make your own head flange unless you have a CNC machine, pluse they are pretty cheap from BMC, like 35 bucks?

Yup!

You see the pic above? I wouldnt put it anymore over to the left than that, Mainly you want to keep it in the middle, but inbetween 3/4 will work just fine.

heres another quick tip, when your welding the manifold be sure that its bolted up to the head, or some type of fixture, otherwise the flange is going to get massive warpage.
