pvc pipe?

simple question if you had to use it which one is better the black stuff or the white stuff

Re:pvc pipe?

If I had to, I would go white and spray it black. ::)

just get some steel pipe and Home Depot couplers. Seriously add it up and see what the price differance is.

Re:pvc pipe?

i went to home depot yester day and the pvc was rated at 73F degrees and 300+ psi would that be ok to use for charge pipes

Re:pvc pipe?

73 degrees is not high enough for ic piping

bluemax189 12-07-2004 12:06 AM

Re:pvc pipe?

go touch anything in the engine bay and you'll see right away that it gets over 73 easily. PVC will melt, but first will fume which will f up our engine. not good. go buy some bends from jcwhitney or summitt

Re:pvc pipe?

thanks im gonna go to and exhaust shop tomorrow and get some straight sections i'll just use the pvc pipe as a mockup

Cray91 12-07-2004 02:28 AM

Re:pvc pipe?

why even use it for mock up???

Why not just use the steel sections??

Re:pvc pipe?

oh cuz i have some left over from another project and its easier to cut pvc then steel

it has to be rated for higher than 73 degrees, my mommy puts boiling water down the drain, and its hotter than 73 degrees. the plastic doesnt melt. ???

(i heard the same thing though about the vapors)

PVC charge pipes have been proven to work on many setups. Just don't use PVC right off the compressor housing.

i've seen pvc on a turbo'd teg. like he says, don't use it comming off the compressor. if you wanna mock up the charge pipes use duct take to hold the steel pipes in place after you cut them.

Re:pvc pipe?

I used APC the thick black piping. Went from the compressor to the intake, I even used crappy rubber couplers. It worked, not really well though, because when the compressor got hot the rubber couplers would give. I ended bringing my setup to a guy to do proper piping, you should of seen his face when he saw my setup. Serously, APC with good silicone couplers will work very well.

Re:pvc pipe?

do any of you guys know the rating that should be used the ones i have are sch40 i think they make a sch80 but im not sure

Re:pvc pipe?

are you sure pvc isn't rated at 73 celcius? because it's hotter than 73 degrees most of the year over here pvc doesn't melt when I carry it out of the store into the hot sun. 73*C=164*F 164 should be alright.

Re:pvc pipe?

kyle thats what i was thinking but it says sch 40 pvc 370psi @73*F its the white pipe im not sure what the black is rated at tho

Re:pvc pipe?

Thats what temp its rated at. Not it's melting point. Pvc is used only for drains. Hot water comes in through copper pipes. And I would guess that it is rated at 300psi because it carries alot of weight. Just to let you know we used a pvc bend right off of the compressor and it just gets real soft and gets smashed by the hose clamp then it pops off every 2 miles. then it eventually get so small that it won't go back on.

Re:pvc pipe?

I have ran black ABS pipe for 6 months on my car.

I did not use it in the engine bay. Just in the bumper for the intercooler. I got some aluminum sections from the junkyard for that. I had one peice under the hood(right off the compessor) and only about 6". It deformed, but didn't even come close to melting.

It isn't the greatest ---- to run, but I was in a bind.

Re:pvc pipe?

thanks for all the imput guys im gonna end up doing this tho flexible exhaust pipe and then coat it the plasti-dip is rates to 400*F so that should be ok and it has a tensil strength of 1300+ so it will hold up just fine

oh does anybody know where i can get a 2.5 to 1.75 inch rubber adapter or a 2.5 to 2 inch 90* adapter
