PVC Intercooling piping !!!

I went to Home Depot and bought 10 feet of 2 inch PVC, 3 90 degree elbows, 3 rubber couples, and straight though piping with a smaller peice that "Y" off the side, and some PVC cement. Total was $26.xx !!

I only have a huge volvo IC right now, so I'm going to run the car non-intercooled for a few weeks.

THe PVC made EVERYTHING SO EASY !!! I just started at the turbo and started cutting the pvc to the lenth that I needed it !!

There is no way the pvc cement is going to leak, pool guys use it in MUCH MORE extreme duty than 20psi of presure.

I haven't painted it black yet, but for a civic that isn't going to be a "show car" or any other car that isn't going to be a "show car" I'd recommend it to anyone !!

My friend has a digital camera, so I may have some pics next week.

Don't be scared to get ghetto, the pvc will prob. last longer than the engine and turbo.

PVC is almost as light as the commonly used IC pipes.
Will not melt unless you put it almost directly on the exhuast.
Seals great with PVC cement.
Is extremly easy to route though the car.
Will not rust.
Will not expand under any amount of boost that a honda could run ( like rubber hoses ).
And of course its cheap.

The only bad thing is of course it don't look "cool", but i think saying that I have less than $400 in a turbo is even cooler..

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

Doesn't PVC begin to break down under extreme(engine bay) heat?

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

i chose ABS pipe because of the thermal properties. ABS is solid up to like 200F

i woldnt use PVC because it will start to warp and sag around 150-170F..

try the pvc, if it sags and lites on fire lemme know.

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

Yeah, you really have to watch PVC in a high-temp environment. I had it as a temporary setup, just to try things out first. It will melt easily, and does emit toxic fumes when heated. I used it for an intake system on my truck before I had a turbo and it was fine because it wasn't really close to any high-heat areas. But it definately did show signs of failure when I plumbed my turbo with it.

I ended up using radiator hose, and it works fantastic. I just went to AutoZone and started looking at all their rad hoses until I found a couple of them that looked pretty close to what I needed.

Ive used PVC for charge pipes. Worked fine, no melting.

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

PVCs melting point is quite high also. I may devise so ghetto "thermo-tech" wrap for the higher temp parts.

I'm not worried about it melting at all.

I know this is Homemade turbo and the idea is to do everything as cheap as possible but come on, plastic IC piping :-X This is why I started www.speedpartsrus.com so you guys wouldn't have to go ghetto like this. Enough two inch steel mandrel bent piping to do one car (two 90s two 45s two 180s) is $65.00 shipped, it will last a lifetime, and you can open your hood without people laughing at you.

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

i've got pvc intercooler piping on my 89 supra turbo and have had no trouble with it at all... i used a ring of exhaust piping in the ends so that the heat with clamp pressure wouldn't cause it to squish down... i got my info at jblmk3.com, check it out if interested and can only spend $20 on piping, however, i'm going to go with customcoach on my rex as it will be much prettier to look at ;D

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

people like to laugh because u spent 12$ on pipe and it works just as good as there ------- 150$ bling polished IC piping.

---- the haters! ;D

I would at least use schedule 40 PVC. It's twice as thick.

I used PVC it worked..gonna use it again. Cause I can't get any mandrel bends here...and if i could it would probably be really expensive...like 80 bucks for a U pipe.

Hey semnos if its that expensive you should team up with the "coach" and start C.C Europe......LOL

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

i have had that idea with the pvc piping also but i was wondering if u could use a torch to make bends to make it look nicer insted of the fittings. just a thought.

CustomCoaches deall is really good, but shipping it to Europe would be a bit more expensive. Especially for large packages

Send me your address in Europe and I will calculate shipping charges, I dont think its as bad as you think. We shipp to Europe all the time, USPS mostly but I have used UPS and its not all that expensive.

Hey man not to start anything. Im new to posting but been reading HMT.com and Honda-Tech for quite some time..

89dxhunchback -- I know that you do your business how you do it.. but alot of us need IC piping and dont want to go PVC or expensive. Personally I wouldnt trust PVC but im sure it works FINE. How about you give HomeMadeTurbo.com customers a 20% discount or freeshipping on our pipes? I'll definitely order from you if it was possible. Hell I still might anyway cause you're the cheapest. Got silicone couplings?

Gunn_x 09-05-2003 12:11 AM

My bad that was for CustomCoach. Apologies

customcoach 09-05-2003 07:29 AM

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

We have the blue silicone and the black nitril couplings, and we are doing a group buy on mandrel bends very soon.

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

Right on. Dont be surprise if I order from you man. Im ready to do my stuff. Can you do one day shipping? I dont want to wait for my piping. :P

I'm selling my nitrous kit, so I may get the piping from you customcoach..

PS: I'm also one of the guys from the stealth/3000gt board taking about your quality..

i had pvc piping when i was NA, i had no bigger problems with it.
the nitrous injector had more stability in the thick plastic than in the previous intake

Dude, burning PVC emits toxic fumes. If you breath it in you can damage your lungs or kill yourself....so why dont you try it out and let us know how it works...... ::)

Re:PVC Intercooling piping !!!

Use CPVC piping instead. It's used for HVAC venting, apparently good up too 1300F.
