purchase new piston and rods

Ok. I was just going to turbo my car that has 72,000 miles on it and i was a little worried it wont last in reliablity. So i purchase some je forged piston and rods to replace my current stock. I was only planning to boost 10 psi. Should i increase now that i have perfomance piston and rods?

Re:purchase new piston and rods

what motor is this on? and what is your fuel setup

dragon 01-27-2004 02:39 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

its a d16y8. I was originally just going to order new stock piston and rods to handle the boost but then i was like "why dont i get performance ones?"
I already purchased 450cc dsm injectors(with the hack) from an eclispe to handle the 8-10 psi i was going to push. Put with perfomance piston and rods i can actually increase the boost i imagine.

Re:purchase new piston and rods

eh, i wouldn't go more than 10-11 with the afc hack........

dragon 01-27-2004 03:21 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

----. I was hoping since i've purcased perfomance parts i could up the boost. So the most i could only boost to is 11 psi with the hack. that sucks

RENR 01-27-2004 03:39 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

well there are ways to boost more with the hack but i doubt a lot of peeple here recommend it. with all the ecu programs going around thats probably your best bet to boost more that 10.

dragon 01-27-2004 03:45 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

well at least I establish my goal of reliability. Those piston and rods should last me boosting 10 psi daily

turboboy 01-27-2004 03:57 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

you dont need internals for 10 psi daily

dragon 01-27-2004 04:07 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

yeah i know. But im all about realiablity and im not sure my piston and rods will last that long. So to be on the safe side i purchased the performance parts.

Re:purchase new piston and rods

i say go with a better form of management like a zdyne gold secu and up the boost to 14 daily.

turboDXcoupe 01-27-2004 04:46 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

i say go with zdyne gold then you can up the boost *remember good fuel managment is the most reliable you can get* ;D

dragon 01-27-2004 04:47 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

Should I stick with the 450cc injectors or would i need bigger ones if im going to increase it to 14 psi. is the zdyne gold secu more exspensive than the hack

RENR 01-27-2004 04:56 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

450cc's will be fine. make sure u buy a walbro pump though. yes zdyne is alot more expensive a hell of a lot more and wait thats for obd0. it wont work with your car. you might have to go with a HONDATA if you want a real standalone system. im unaware of free roms for obdII but then im not all into obdII.

---- that then. I'll just run 11 psi and thats fine with me. I dont have the much money and if its such a hassle with my ecu being obd2 then hell no. 11 psi is fine with the hack right. With some good tunning i hope i can exceed more than 200whp

RENR 01-27-2004 05:09 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

11psi is dope! youll love it, but i think your going to want more eventually. you can do 15-16 psi with those rods and pistons.:o i know ill get knocked for this but say u run a check valve on the vacum line to the map sensor and run say 50psi onyour fuel rail with a fpr i think it will work. but thats me im ghetto.... ;D

dragon 01-27-2004 05:44 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

lol. yeah i might get that boost addiction sooner or later. But in the meantime i'll stick with 11 psi. I might take that advice though :)

Re:purchase new piston and rods

sell me your pistons and rods since ur only gonna be pushing 11 psi ;D

i'm serious!

id say zdyne is money....

yah dude just get some standalone might as well if youve went this far.

Re:purchase new piston and rods

hmmmmmmmmm. im quess i have to make a decision sooner or later. Depends on how much power i can acheive from the boost. There soo much i must learn. I dont want to turn to the dark side. Where projekteg when you need him!

projekteg 01-28-2004 05:20 AM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

well honestly man, it comes down to what you want and if you want to spend the money on. if you're gonna stick with the hack, you definitely don't need the rods! the pistons will be nice and some extra insurance, the rods will really be overkill and a waste of money. however, if you plan on upping your management to boost more sometime (obviously not at the same time you just dropped a grip on some pistons and rods :P), then yeah, go ahead and use them. as far as management, your only real options are, hondata, smt6, or getting an obd2 to 1 harness and an obd1 ecu, then you would be able to socket it and run uberdata (turboedit is for obd0 :P). i'm gonna be getting the smt6 here shortly, i looked into it and it's really the best option for obd2 right now if you're on a budget, it only cost 290 (90 dollars more than a used afc), and it controls everything! the software for it is set up just like any rom editor. there is an unofficial group buy for them that tuner toys is having, i already signed up for two of ;D

Re:purchase new piston and rods

the boost is strong with you projekteg. I think Im just going to boost with my stock piston and rods and keep the upgrades for another time when i have more money.

d16y8, probably obd2, zdyne wont work.

best bet would be to do a obd2-obd1 conversion and use hondata modified p28.

Re:purchase new piston and rods

you think the new honda cars are better but they just make things more difficult to do performance :-\

yeah, but in stock form they are much more reliable than an 0bd0 crx ;) besides, there's ways around it ;D you should sell your afc and get the smt6 ;D

dragon 01-28-2004 01:22 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

hmm. I might do that when i want to put the new piston in. is there anyway that i can switch the new ecu for an older one?

projekteg 01-28-2004 01:27 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

yeah, that's what the 0bd2 to obd1 conversion harness is for, it allows you to run an obd1 ecu. but, then what? you pay for the conversion harness, an ecu, and hondata, that's a lot of money. or you pay for the harness, ecu, chip burner, chip burner, ecu socket, chips, *to use with uberdata* that's still more money than the smt6 :-\ i don't know, that's just my .02, i'm sold on the smt6, i downloaded the software and manuals for it already, and like i said earlier, it think it's the best thing of obd2 tuning right now for the money.......

dragon 01-28-2004 01:57 PM

Re:purchase new piston and rods

god damn so much ----. yeah i'll just do my original plan and then up the boost down the line. I have to learn to walk before i run

Re:purchase new piston and rods

I have a similar setup that i am piecing together,

fuel management-----
450cc dsm injectors
greddy e-manage
ignition harness
injector harness
pressure sensor
pressure sensor harness

internals---
je srp 9.1 pistons
eagle esp rods

IHI RHB5 turbo
Custom front mount intercooler
1996 honda civic ex d16Y8

How much do you think I can boost daily?

all that is a total waste imo to use an rhb5 on that setup

are the pistons 75.5mm?

dog.. i said i was going to keep them until i have enough money to upgrade my performance. If i change my mind i'll sell you them k ::)
