PSI on T3 Turbo

I have a T3 and just got a b16 del sol. I was going to install the turbo kit on it but i know the internal wastegate is set at 10 psi. I dont want to risk the chance of blowing my engine. I heard that with a boost controller you can only set the boost higher not lower than what it is wastegated at.Is that true? What can I do to lower the boost to 7psi? Thanks

it is true that the boost controller can only make the psi higher and not lower than what the wastegate is already set on.

to change the psi on the external wg i know u adjust the springs hehe internal uMm...haha no clue =(

Yeah, adjusting the wastegate spring would help. 10 psi shouldnt blow your engine though...you could chain your wastegate open but that would give you jack ---- boost

Just lengthen the actuator rod on the waste gate arm.

Re:PSI on T3 Turbo

HOw much do i have to lengthen the rod? is there any other way to lower boost?

how do you know the wastegate is set at 10 psi?

Get a new external wastegate...

Re:PSI on T3 Turbo

could you cut the spring on the inside of the wastegate so it would be shorter and open earlyer or make it weaker by shaving alittle of the inside of the spring out?

cant you just use an adjustable one from a dodge or saab t3? You could get one at the JY for like 50ct..

Just save up some dough for 440 injectors. With tuning that'll reduce the detonation. Then U can run 10 psi until U upgrade your internals.

If U don't have an intercooler yet, then definetly change the length of your wastegate actuator to lessen the boost. If U have an IC, then realize that it'll probably take away 1 psi.

i actually have 450 injectors(high impedance)from tuner toys and a johnnyrace car 5" intercooler. But now im thinking twice about the turbo set up because i want to keep my a/c because i live in the middle of the desert in texas and i read on another post that it could cause detonation, is this only when you hit vtec when the a/c is on or even if its off it will detonate?. Will the bmc log style mani clear the a/c? Thanks

Re:PSI on T3 Turbo

this is how you do it rduce the vaccum from the intake mani to the wastegate accuator, manual boost controller or a in line needle valve

That was me in the other thread about detonation when the car hits VTEC w/the AC on. The detonation only occurred at the engagement point of VTEC with the AC on. I have 440 injectors on my D16Z6 with an E-Manage. My tuner tried unsuccessfully to create an efficent mapping for AC w/VTEC. He even tried to load up a couple 100 rpm's below the VTEC engagement, but no luck. It's just a mindset. Realize that if your chilling, stay below VTEC engagement.

lenghtening the wastgate rod is an option, but not a very good one. The turbo will be super laggy, but once the boost is reached, it will hit pretty hard.

Save up the money, and go external. Not only can you lower your boost, but you also have the peace of mind knowing that your boost will stay put. Make sure ALL your vac/boost lines are secured with zip ties or clamps.

If you keep an eye out, you can find an external wastgate out there pretty cheap. I just picked up a Turbonetics Deltagate II for under 80 bucks. Works fine, but looks horrid. It also sounds NASTY!(<---in a good way)
