Project Beater Officially Done - Almost..... (New Snail and other parts added)

I finnally finished the install this past weekend. There are a few things to work out. I have to fab up a mount bracket for the coolant overflow resevior. I also have to clean the engine bay like nobodies business. It has been sitting in my driveway for a year and has collected quite a bit of dust, dirt and grime. I also found out my $30 junkyard T3 is junk, so I am going to pick up a new turbonetics later this week. Anyway, here are a few pics of the beater.

Everything was built from scratch in my garage with the exception of the intercooler . Not bad for ~$500.

I had to shave a bit off of the elbow to make it clear the block. I used the stock sabb pipe with flared end and it worked out super slick.

Those chargepipes are nice and I don't see any welds on them anywhere! Was it mandrel bent from a single piece of tubing? Either way nice setup for 500.

They are just JC Whitney bends that I welded together. My first job was in a bodyshop so I ground down all of the welds and used a sandable primmer on all of the welds. It is a real thick primer that is applied like filler. It sands down very smooth. I had fun with this project. I have an idea in my head of twin turbo'ing an 89-91 fox body mustang. I think that would be fun.

Looks really nice. Those Bosch BOVs come on 86 porsche 944 turbos. I am running a pair of them on my stang.

They actaully came on a lot of Sabb's. Volvo's and a variety of Porches. I found a web page a while back that had all of the part numbers of all the various spring rates etc...

My new snail arrived finally after a month of waiting. I also have a cutout and flex to install. Driving around with and open downpipe was fun for about the first 5 minutes but because very annoying after that. I have started bumper reconstruction. I am reworking the bumper surrounding the intercooler itself so that it will sit flush all around the intercooler and so it will fit the car decdently. It is hagning on with zip-ties at the moment because the local law officials think that I need my bumper to operate my vehicle. I am also reshaping the lower part of the bumper to have slight bump-outs where the chargepipes run behind. Lots of fiberglass is being used and the results should be great. I will post pics up once it is done.

you may want to place your o2 sensor further away from the turbo. I got bad readings on my wideband when mine was placed too close. Other than that the setup looks sick :)
