Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch *Now Running!*

Yes, you heard right. A t-25 turbo in an EF hatch with...get this....an HF manifold. Im really breaking some new ground here. ::)

ok, so maybe its been done before, but its a super-low buget project. Work has been a ----- lately so I have had very little free time to work on it. So far, i've got the turbo clocked and mounted (had to make some home-made snap-ring pliers. Harbor freight shipping is slow as balls. It's got a fresh MPFI swap on it (havent even driven on it), cleaned and balanced 450's and Turboedit (Xenocron kicks ass!) I still gotta figure out my CAS problem (no big), do the oil return and then do the FMIC plumbing and exhaust. Just thought i'd share.

Nice work!

I almost bought one of those DSM T25s a few years ago to put on my d-series... but I never did.

Sounds like a nice fun budget setup.

the whole oil return is being a major pain in the ass. Almost got it going. Had all my power tools, welder and ---- outside and out of nowhere it starts pouring. blar!

Just realized the DP I had is meant for having the turbine on the driver side, so imma have to get one fabbed up. :-[

nice..whered you get ur oil lines at?

TunerToys. Its good quality stuff. The only thing I'm a tad apprehensive about is the fit on the return fittings. Not very snug, but I guess thats what clamps are for. I prefer a nicer 'bite' on the barbed fittings.

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

Ain't it tho!

It'll be my first experience with having a small turbo. Looking forwards to a fast spool. I got lucky. It seems to be in excellent shape. Kind of a bitch about the DP tho but I'll be ordering a flange today and gonna have it run 2 pipes (down pipe and separate dump tube).

Maybe I'll do something silly like have the dump tube come out the fender or something. LOL...or maybe not

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

Hey man, sweet looking set-up. I have almost the same thing going on, but i have a small T3 bolted on to an HF manifold. I'm almost done, but i was hoping you could help me with one little question i have. that little nipple thing coming off the bronze colored housing in your second picture, does that need to be connected to anything or is that some sort of release valve? Sorry for taking away from your thread, but i noticed it in your pics and i was hoping you could just help me out with this. and again, your setup looks great and i wish you luck with the rest of it!

idiot-stick 04-14-2005 08:56 PM

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

Thanks man. The bronze thing is the wastegate. If your compressor has a nipple fitting, connect it to that. If it doesnt, connect a nipple from your intake manifold to the wastegate.

I love saying nipple!

nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple nipple

If you dont hook that up, your car will go KABLOOOOEY!!

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

awesome...haha, thanks a lot for that.

Since i'm using a HF manifold, and my compressor side doesnt have a nipple for that connection, what runner do you suggest the connection be made to, or does it matter? Thanks for any help. (and i promise, this is the last question)

idiot-stick 04-15-2005 04:25 PM

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

Your intake manifold might have a spare nipple thats just plugged up. If so, use that. If not, you can T off of your FPR (thats what I do anyways) to give the boost signal to the wastegate.

I just pulled the mani/turbo off for the last time and clocked it. Still has no IC or piping, but im gonna start the motor and see if I get some spinnage.

I gots a stealthmode oil manifold or whatever you wanna call it. Nice piece.

STill got no DP, but today managed to weld up some IC support brackets, re-clocked the turbo (for the last ------- time) and started up the motor. I still got a CPS CEL but thats minor. Turbo spins. The smoke burns my eyes!!!!!

* newbie alert *

What color smoke??? And why is there smoke???

probly some smoke from it being worked on greasy hand prints burning off and stuff happens all the time

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

mini-update:

grinded the downpipe flange off of the downpipe I bought of H-T but didnt fit right at all. Went to my friends shop and checked out his bad-ass TIG welder and tried it on some steel and aluminum. Jesus welding aluminum is hard. Hopefully I'll have time tomorrow to start mocking up the downpipe and dump tube.

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

haha welcome to the fun world of clocking your t25 on an EF until it fits! i had to re-clock mine probably 5-6 times to get the piping/oil lines where i wanted them... and ended up having to re-drill the wastegate bracket for it to fit

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

I just kept the outlet down low near the subframe. TOo lazy to redrill the wastegate holes. Welded up a downpipe today, but I think I got that ---- too hot and warped the flange. Damnit I'm a noob welder :(

notihing a bunch of hi-temp silicone can't fix!. Also, gonna have to take a bit of material out of the subframe and front mount. Still have a fucked up wiring problem. Getting a CAS code. Tried another distributor and it didnt help. Gonna re-wire all that tomorrow hopefully.

P.S. my oil return line is like an inch long. Ok, maybe not that short, but its hella short.

i warped mine as well when we were welding it.

took it to a jet sander and fixed that issue. do you have access to a flat backed belt sander? it works as long as you hold it even and keep steady pressure on it. I checked mine afterward with a flat edge, perfectly flat (or flat enough for exhaust flanges) ;)

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

Fook - no belt sander. I might just take it to a machine shop. Anybody know about what they'd charge for that? Might be cheaper to buy a cheap belt sander.

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

Got a bit more done today

The big pipe goes from the intake manifold to the battery area. The smaller pipe is for turbo to intercooler. All of the welds will be sealed with JBWeld then painted. Doesnt look like a lot of work but probably took about 8hrs. I'm slowly getting a bit better at welding.

Re: Progess pics. T25 on EF hatch

Too dark to take pics but I took it for a very brief ride today. Makes exactly 6.5psi which is a great starting point. It's nice. What's even nicer is I made all the IC piping from scrap and I'm making the exhaust myself from scrap (excluding a new flex pipe and new muffler)

I got a lot of work to do still: Tuning, fix and install catch can, fit hood latch (quit working all the sudden) and fab the exhaust. ;D ;D ;D ;D
