Problem with detonation HELP!!!

My setup is a garret T3 .42 .48 on a d15b7 afc hack (tuned rich)dsm 450 injectors. Im running a JohnnyRaceCar front mount. I have 93 octane gas in it (north east:thumbup:) i bought some ngk 2 heat ranges colder plus, gapped to .28 and im boosting right around 7 psi. Now the only way i can get it to NOT detonate is by setting the timing at 9-10 BTC, anything higher then that it detontates. Now, this seems to be extremely retarded vs. a few other setups ive had, and i know im losing power with it retarded so much. Id like to run it at least 12-14 BTC, but it detontates. What should i check next?

what are your afc settings?

Re:Problem with detonation HELP!!!

afc settings are:

-38 at 1000-2000
-35 3000-4000
-33 5000+

seems to detonate around 3500-4500 rpm in 3rd + 4th gear.

are the high/low settings the same? what about your throttle points? is the .28 gap normal? you would be runing rich with those settings....

Re:Problem with detonation HELP!!!

high low are the same. throttle position is 98/99, and the gap is perfect.

Weird. How many miles on the motor. Hows the compression?

Yeah.. what c/r you have?

.... seems at end you'll have to invest into 'real' management (AEM, hondata....) to get rid of it in proper way... or atleast get BTM, and set it to almost 1 degree per psi.

I already said few times, and - unfortunetely for you - you are proof of AFC advancing timing.. and rpm's (3500-4500) at which that happens only prove that :(

its still strange because hes runing 93 octane gas. he shouldnt be detonating regardles of the afc's timing advance. did u upgrade your fuel pump? 93octane and only 7psi, somethings wrong you really shouldnt be detonating at all.

Re:Problem with detonation HELP!!!

That sounds like my case too.

I was using TurboEdit and richened the fuel 8% over normal boost bin with 1.00 degree retard and it barely cut the detonation out. I'm using a starion FMIC too.. Here's a list of things I think is causing it:

1. Fuel Pump
2. Fuel Filter
3. High Compresssion (over 200psi in each cyl.) (186k miles)
4. HF Manifold not pumping the heat out properly
5. 2" exhaust

anything else? My distrib is turned FULLY towards the radiator and that's fully retarded... wow.

Spring break I'm replacing fuel filter, fuel pump, upgrading 2.5" race exhaust out the side and tuning it right... I should get it running right after all that's been done.
