Pressure drop across IC??

I have the vacume line for my internal wastegate coming off of my compressor housing. I was told I will loose 1.5 psi across my intercooler...is this true? I'm sure it depends on the size of the IC...i've got a 30X6X2 inch core size intercooler(tyrus intercooler).

Assuming my internal WG is set at 8psi, with the intercooler, would my engine only be seeing 6.5psi???

Thanks

Well, the compressor has no vac, just boost. :P You won't find vac until after the throttle body.

Let me guess, you don't have a boost gauge? :-\ Eek, be careful. Normal pressure drop is around 1psi and could be as much as 2 or 3 depending on the design and size. If your wastegate is set at 8psi then your motor is probably only seeing 6.8psi or something in that area. I would get a boost gauge to be safe.

I do have a boost gauge...I just don't have the turbo on my car yet. I'm just trying to determine if the WG I have is too big or too small before I put it on my car and find out I have to get a different one.

I just don't want ot put the turbo on my car with a 8psi WG...expecting 8psi, and only seeing 6.5psi.

And I guess I should have said the boost tap on the side of the compressor that is connected to the internal WG...my bad.

Oh, I see. You can always build a $3 boost controller at HomeDepot. It's in the FAQ if you are interested.

BTW, I was just messin' with ya about the vac thing. :P

Re:Pressure drop across IC??

I thaught about the boost controller...but that only works to raise boost. If I have a 12 psi WG the boost controller will do me no good if my goal is 7psi.

thanks anyway.

Oh, well you said you didn't want to expect 8psi and only see 6.5psi, which a boost controller would fix. What wastegate actuator do you have? An 8 or a 12? ???

Re:Pressure drop across IC??

I'm not sure...I've got a garrett T3 with a .42/.48. There is not a part number on the turbo. I was told it came off of a saab or a volvo, which probibly is set at 12 psi. I haven't done the actuator test to it yet...but will soon.

But your right, that would work. I'm just trying not to sound like a newbie ;D

Re:Pressure drop across IC??

Lol, you had me fooled. ;) You could always bend the actuator rod to lower the compression, but that sucks because you also raise the lag. :-\ I guess it all depends on what your actuator is going to allow the turbo to boost.

Re:Pressure drop across IC??

Yeah, i've already been through that arguement on a seperate post about adjusting the threads on the actuator rod to adjust boost, and like you said I don't want to increase my lag while trying to lower my boost.

Thanks for all of your help though.
