Possible boost or exhuast leak?

Guys i know i havent been around much but I still am very much alive.

I installed a new walbro 255lph high pressure fuel pump yesterday which has made a world of difference in my setup.

Regarldess after installing it i went for a ride after a little bit of boosting at 6 psi The car stared making this loud whine noise....almost like a supercharger.

I thought it might be the fuel pump but I know its not now. I tried to turn up the boost with my MBC and it woudltn go past 6 psi... I even disconnected the vaccume line to the acutator still no additonal boost and still that very loud whine noise.

Now I just went out and turned the boost controller all the way down and I'm only seeing 1 -2 psi of boost.

So I'm thinking I either have an exhuast leak or a leak in my charge pipe thats making that damn noise. I didnt hear the whine when I was running just 1 - 2 psi.

At first I thought the turbo was cooked but I think its fine now. Any idea's on this or has anyone had a similair problem?

I know the exhuast manifold had cracks on the top that i rewelded but i cant see the bottom... Any help as always is appreciated

Definately check out the couplers for the charge pipes. I had one the blew a hole in it and it was making the same noise. I was still able to boost, but only about 5 psi.

Trance,

I hope thats all it is... I'll work on it when I get a chance. I think I have an idea where the hole may be.

After that...10psi here i come :) track times to follow lol

Hope so too bro, good luck. I was boosting 10-11 psi when mine started making that noise. Then boost dropped and I checked over all my couplers and discovered one with a hole in it. Those home depot plumbing couplers don't hold up for ---- :-\ I need some silicone ones.

yep i just blew a home depot coupler too. It look like somebody shoved a knive through my coupling. And also when you shut off your car you'll hear that woosh sound like when you have an cold air intake. So if you hear the familiar sound then you know you have a leak.

i've always heard exhaust leaks whistle more then whine. But a whine sound is kinda cool.. I think I'm going to invest in some timing gears (versus the timing chain) to give me that monster sound.
