Please help evaluate potential setup..LONG

Hi, noob to the board here. I'm a Stainless Tig welder by trade and have one in my garage so fab is not an issue. I am planning my turbo setup so I need the gurus to chime in with advice. You can say whatever you want but please back it up with facts, not heresay or "My buddy's car.......blah blah.

I have a 1995 Civic CX hatch with a JDM D15B and S20 LSD trans swapped in. It's a fine motor, but I'd like more power without going B-series, so here's my plan:
I have a turbo, IC and BOV from a WRX. Parts have less than 8000kms on them, so they are like brand new. I plan on building a tubular manifold from 16ga. 304/316 SS elbows and tubing. I want to use 1.5" for the manifold into the turbo, I'm going to make a new DP flange that will let me run a 3" DP AND run a seperate 1.5" tube for a WG dump that will go back into the 3" DP further down. Obviously I will run a 3" SS exhaust as well. the IC will be mounted beside the Civic half rad and will be plumbed to the intake with 2.5" tubing.
I plan on running approx 6-7lbs.of boost. I have a set of Volvo 350cc injectors and an adjustable FPR with gauge. I also have a socketed P28 and a chip burner and obviously the capability to run any obd 1 program. I will run a boost gauge, EGT bungs on each cylinder but only one probe, and hopefully a W/B o2.
Some questions I have:

Anybody know anything about the Volvo injectors? What style are they, high-low risitance, peak hold, saturated, etc?

The WRX runs the BOV on the IC, seems like a weird spot, but will it work there or should I mount it before the TB on the charge pipes?

The WRX runs 14 psi stock(I think) so I'll need to alter the WG spring, how is that accomplished? I assume I have to change the spring, but where to get them for that application?

What is the best way to mount the turbo as I don't want it hanging off the manifold.

I want a super quiet muffler without restricting flow, is that possible?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated, I just found this site yesterday and it looks amazing, I hope to learn alot here.

Thanks

Darren

First, I would like to applaud you on a great first post. Most newbs go something like "i want to make my civic faster please help me" ::) So thank you for that..

I will attempt to answer as many questions as possible, with my knowledge of them..

6-7 pounds of boost is a very safe level, you definitely will have no problems achieving that.

Fabrication will not be a problem for you, so that will help you out greatly in this project.

With the BOV, yes it works in that spot, but I would prefer it to be on the charge pipe, that is my personal preference but whichever will work.

What will the manifold you are making look like? Without a visual reference, I cant tell you how to mount the turbo.

I've seen more than a few people on here with super quiet mufflers, I believe some of the el cheapo mufflers in Summit are pretty quiet. Or you can be a balla like Jeff and run with a stock exhaust 8)

Hopefully my post helped you out atleast a little bit. I'd wait for other users to respons about the injectors and etc.

Oh, also..
Welcome to HMT!

;D

I plan on running a tubular style header similar to this:

Ok that's a bit overkill, but you get the idea, it won't be a log or ram's head style. I have some ideas on design but the major factors are equal length and packaging.

that thing is wicked looking, i like it

the wrx turbo wg setting is at 6-7lbs.....they run 14psi because of a selenoid of some sort.

great, that makes life easy then.

Anybody know anything about Volvo turbo injectors? They are green tops.

Great post, looks like someone did some research.

For the setup you have, you should get some DSM 390 injectors, you'll be good for 10 PSI on your setup with thoes.

Remember, management, tuning and more tuning, there is nothing worse then a car with bad tuning, i've seen some engines with stock internals handle 14psi while others blew up at 7.

id go witrh the 450s. you know youll be running 10 lbs instead of 7..maybe even 12 is you are a champion

Just spring the $50 for some DSM 450's and the $10 for a resistor box. Use Uberdata and make a nice and rich basemap and then get it dyno tuned when you can.

OK, I'm getting some DSM injectors, 450's to be exact. I'm thinking of building the manifold using 1.5" elbows and tubing to keep exhaust gas velocities high, any thoughts? I have never heard of Uberdata, I have been using Chrome with success on my N/A setup, more research I guess........

for 6-7psi an equal length manifold is WAY overkill.. id just do a log manifold. but, if u really want a "tubular style" go w/ a "ram horn" style.

Re:Please help evaluate potential setup..LONG

Well, to be honest,6-7 psi is the early goal, that goal will increase as I get things tuned properly. I assume a well tuned stock d is good to about 9-10 psi before better internals are needed? I want to build a tubualar mani as a fab project anyway and I might as well build something that can be utilized as my power goals increase. It's going to be fun........

Sounds good man and good luck. It will be fun.

Hey MAsta! Good to see you here!
I am building my own log styl manifold as well. It actually looks fairly simple.
Good chioce on the DSM injectors. Also, Im sure RPR coudl help you out to chip your ecu to run uberdata, or do it yoursefl even, its very simple.
6 psi will be pretty good and safe, but 10 psi shoudl be your goal. Good to see you around again

Hey Dan, I saw you're post about getting an EG, good idea, you'll never regret it. rpr will be helping with my setup, his house is 3 mins. away and he has the Tig machine in his garage so that seals his fate.

darren, how does he have the tig setup? i don't think you can plug a tig into a 110 outlet. i am thinking about getting one perhaps in the spring.

Re:Please help evaluate potential setup..LONG

You can buy a Tig that plugs into 110v, mine is 220v single phase though. You can get Tig machines that plug into anything from 110v to 575V.
